It is really striking how incredibly American-centric the discourse around this stuff is. Like there’s literally an entire world out there that’s also building data centers, training models, etc and people are still acting like how white collar Americans feel is all that matters.

It is really striking how incredibly American-centric the discourse around this stuff is. Like there’s literally an entire world out there that’s also building data centers, training models, etc and people are still acting like how white collar Americans feel is all that matters.

Finally, it's worth noting that - beyond the obvious training issues - the MASSIVE takeup limiter on AI business services is data and labour regulations.
AI thinking is very US-centric. It works when you live in a regulatory desert. It doesn't in anywhere with functional personal data/exhange laws.

There’s some legitimacy to Twitter and Reddit being upset with AI companies slurping up social data gratis in order to train commercially lucrative models. But they should never forget that it’s not *their* data — it’s ours. A solution to parasitic AI needs to be user-centric, not profit-centric.
