I feel like #rstats #dplyr and #dbplyr were lying in waiting for a decade+ for #parquet and #duckdb to materialize

Great video!! I like Parquet files, but a lot of times I'm working with layers of data and/or related tables. For these cases I do slip into duckdb and store my data as a single duckdb database (i.e. duck db file). Maybe I'm being ADHD but I slip back and forth between SQL and dbplyr / dplyr

Active Record와 Laravel은 WHERE, ORDER BY 같은 SQL 절을 채우므로 이 예제에서는 호출 순서를 바꿔도 결과가 같습니다.

I still read 100% of the code I write for R packages, where the stakes are generally high. It's really important for testthat, dbplyr, roxygen2 etc, to continue to be robust high-quality code.

What about a lazy one, is there a dbplyr?

dbverse builds on many open-source projects, including @duckdb.org, #DataFusion, #ApacheArrow, and the #RStats ecosystem (dbplyr, dplyr, DBI, and more).

If you're interested in contributing to dbverse for Python or Julia, I’d love to connect (narwhals and @tidierjl.bsky.social teams👀)

dbplyr makes this step mostly unnecessary. You write what you want to do in R, and dbplyr translates it into SQL. So, for many day-to-day tasks, all you really need to learn is how to wrangle your data in R.

Be smarter than me, don't wait years before making its acquaintance.

I’ve politely ignored the dbplyr R package for years. I had never had issues with databasing from R or Python. What could it bring me?

I love dbplyr for this reason

I find "thinking in SQL" to be....unpleasant. I don't typically need highly optimized queries, so the translations generated are a massive efficiency gain. It's especially true for ad hoc exploration

I think it's the best idea to come out of the tidyverse!

dbplyr release note:

```
New verb support
- bind_queries() makes it easy to combine multiple lazy queries using UNION ALL (#1342). It’s the dbplyr equivalent of dplyr::bind_rows().
Hmm. Yeah, dbplyr is essential. Part of that might be that your R version is quite old. Upgrading R should resolve all of this. (And I should check if I really need that recent a version of dbplyr that it requires newer R.)
New month, new tools. Who doesn't love a good open-source breakdown to kick off July?
We are excited to share #RStats and #Python updates from the Posit open-source team in the July Glimpse newsletter, from dbplyr to Great Tables to tidymodels.
Check it out: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-07...
Updates on CRAN: AdmixPoly (1.0.1), dbplyr (2.6.0), DrugUtilisation (1.2.0), ebrahim.gof (2.1.0), ergMargins (1.6.2), GLBFP (0.5.2), ig.degree.betweenness (0.2.1)
dbplyr 2.6.0 is here! This release leaned on Claude Code to clear a TON of smaller issues, freeing up time for the big stuff: brand-new ADBC and JDBC backends, new translations, and a new sql_dialect() to cleanly decouple connection from SQL dialect. Read more: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-06...
If you use dbplyr, good news:
duckplyr plays nice.
Convert duck frames to lazy dbplyr tables and back in one line.
