#decentralised
1/ Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian data centres are having a severe impact due to the highly centralised nature of Russia's digital economy, in contrast to Ukraine's decentralised approach. Fears are growing that it could cause a banking crisis. ⬇️

Ukraine's new campaign of destroying Russia's data centers will prove devastating for Putin's economy and war machine if the White House is unable to prevent it.

The chaos we're already seeing across Russia is only four days into the campaign and 3 facilities targeted.

13/ "The problem is that the Ukrainian information infrastructure was initially significantly more decentralised, meaning it had fewer vulnerable nodes that, if disabled, could bring down the entire infrastructure.

dawg look at my decentralised social media network 😭
And a follow up question. Who are you? Why are you anonymous?

Won't be the last time. Powerful argument against the 'Internet of Things' and for decentralised, disconnected systems www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Fridges in French supermarkets hit by cyber attack
Hundreds of stores were targeted by the overnight hack, which spoiled fresh and frozen food estimated to be worth millions of euros.

17/ "A third factor – difficult to verify independently but supported by expert opinion – is that the Ukrainian network is generally highly decentralised. There are no single major network hubs, an attack on which could bring down the "Ukrainian Internet."

You don't have to believe me though; you can look at the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where the Russian military has deliberately targeted energy infrastructure during the dead of winter as a tactic of war. In response, Ukraine has invested in decentralised renewable energy.

Ah yes, the academic discipline most focused on decentralised markets and outcome based decision-making is also oddly the most concentrated and status driven.
Finally a proper working paper for this study that produced one of the most astounding figures I've ever seen. Basically economics is different from every other field, empirically. This paper looks at the concentration of university affiliations for award winners.

Welcome to W Social, @comptoir-agricole.wsocial.eu 🚀🇪🇺

Thrilled to see leading European agricultural cooperatives joining the decentralised ecosystem. Give them a follow! 🌱

I don't think that's how crypto works. One of the main attractions is that it's decentralised.

How many price shocks before governments get people off oil and gas?

Oil is moving through Hormuz again, but shipping remains dangerous and costly. People foot the bill.

END fossil fuel dependence. Push for PEACE and scale up decentralised RENEWABLES like wind and solar NOW.

Just moved my bluesky account over to eurosky.social. Hoping for a more decentralised communication future. On that note, if you haven't, also check out matrix.org.

Bartley was a big fan of the 'decentralised' model of ridiculous levels of non-leadership that the Greens imposed on themselves, so it's a bit rich now to say that Polanski lacks leadership.

Whereas in the Baptist church, it's the fact that we are so decentralised and anti-authoritarian that has allowed some of us to register for same sex marriage, despite a majority being opposed.

We are all caught up in their fear because they haven't yet decentralised. What are they waiting for?

I’ve had a few fruitless conversations with UK civil society over the years along the lines of: you know the far right is outplaying and out-strategising and out-organising you in every way, while you’re wanking around with a Mastodon install and calling it impactful advocacy b/c it’s decentralised

I don't think this is accurate, at least not for crypto stuff.

Crypto stuff worked. It work(s/ed) even better than AI, even. The blockchain is little more than a decentralised ledger, it worked. The problem with it was always it was stupid, and the tradeoffs were never worth the few, few upsides.

I'd go after telecommunications exchanges

It's a myth that 'because comms infrastructure is very decentralised, it can route around faults'. There's a bit of that, but it's quite limited

Even in big cities, if you take out between 2 and 4 exchange buildings, you kill ALL communications of any kind

got hit with reminders that bluesky is still composed of ai slop in many ways so i really wanna make the move soon to something actually decentralised and run by sensible people
