for some context, ilaaks is eido, and this is an au where the traveler stayed on riis instead of fleeing, and gave eliksni lightbearers. ilaaks is a lightbearer, and eramis is not.

Eramis watches, frozen to process those words, to consider them. To reject the Great Machine or its gifts borders on heresy, and Ilaaks knew this by the ways her eyes widened, how she couldn’t catch her breath quite right. To tell anyone of this, let alone someone of the Dancers, was dangerous. And, Eramis had to contend with, a sign of trust. The fear on Ilaaks’ features, followed by how she snapped her head away, made something cold and sharp melt into a protective, maternal shape.
