A teaser for a future chapter of "The Weapon and Its Wielder," my luxuriously indulgent Guardian OC x Lodi fic.

It jerks reflexively, trying to get away from the hot hand on its shoulder, but there's nowhere to go. ".settle do|wn. .you are | safe. .for n|ow." The familiar yet unfamiliar voice makes the Weapon freeze. ".you are ra|diant sunshine. .don't be fright|ened. .our emissary has | never shi|ed away from | a little mys|tery." The Weapon feels a second hand on its shoulders, and the ache in its gut vanishes. Slowly it twists in its seat to face the Ambassador once more as the hands fall away. The cracks on his face seems a little more prominent, both eyes now a bright and glowing blue, and the Weapon shivers because it recognizes a predator. ".don't worry. .every|thing you want | is already set in motion." The low purr in the Not-Ambassador's voice brings heat to the Weapon's face.

for some context, ilaaks is eido, and this is an au where the traveler stayed on riis instead of fleeing, and gave eliksni lightbearers. ilaaks is a lightbearer, and eramis is not.

It would be good to keep it long, so that others may see the position you’re in.” “I– I don’t like that. Being seen as a warrior,” she admitted, sounding as though her very shell had been pulled from her body as she spoke. “I don’t want to be a warrior. I can’t be a warrior.” A screenshot of a Google Document. It reads: “Every battle I’ve been in has been the same, Baron Eramis,” she forced. “I’ve always needed [Misraaks] to defend me. I always freeze in conflict. I have never laid a blade or tooth or claw on a foe. I have never shed blood, I gag at the sight of other creatures suffering, eliksni or invader. If having the Great Machine’s gift is to kill and harm and ruin, then I don’t want this gift anymore.” There’s a shuddering breath from the smaller of the two women in the tent. Eramis watches, frozen to process those words, to consider them. To reject the Great Machine or its gifts borders on heresy, and Ilaaks knew this by the ways her eyes widened, how she couldn’t catch her breath quite right. To tell anyone of this, let alone someone of the Dancers, was dangerous. And, Eramis had to contend with, a sign of trust. The fear on Ilaaks’ features, followed by how she snapped her head away, made something cold and sharp melt into a protective, maternal shape.
