In 2006 an early Permian Varanops skeleton was described with scavenging traces on its bones. The bite marks and an embedded tooth match a dissorophoid temnospondyl, something like this Cacops on the right. #FossilFriday

Adding some plausible speculative soft tissue for a terrestrial dissorophoid really makes it look that way

Then, last year, ahead of my visit to the Smithsonian, my colleague Arjan Mann was in the bowels of the collections looking for an unpublished Texas dissorophoid specimen that another colleague, Bob Hook, wanted me to look at. While there, Arjan found another unpublished Texas dissorophoid (8/n)

@calamanderso.bsky.social is already using another dataset that contains more than 1,700 skull length measurements/estimates, which is compiled in part from my frequent depiction of size for various clades in some of my recent work (note that skull size is only a pseudo-proxy for body size)

Lepospondyli and Holospondyli are falsified, with a clade of urocordylids and aistopods, having temnospondyl, but not dissorophoid or lissamphibian affinities. They did not fall into the tetrapod stem, but were temnospondyls, just as 'microsaurs' are reptilomorphs, apical to the seymouriamorphs.
