The thing about death—

No. That's a horrid beginning. Start again.

The thing about the after is that you start to lose pieces of who you were. It's intentional, you know? Built into the design.

Helps people move on. Or so they say.

The forgetting—it's meant to be a mercy.

myth. "Now, I won't name any usernames, but someone in chat last week claimed that the g-spot is a myth." Lounging shirtless in the dark leather armchair he uses for streaming, Ben raises one dark eyebrow at the webcam in front of him. He's positioned the tripod significantly farther away than usual, to widen the angle of the shot for today's stream. Because— "You know I'm all about education." He lets the corner of his mouth quirk up and gives the camera a significant look. "So I figured it was time to take a break from the solo content—everyone, please welcome my co-star for today, Kira Kenobi." He fights to keep projecting cool, calm confidence as Rey—known to her fans and subscribers as Kira—saunters into frame and drapes herself across his lap with a red-painted smirk. "Hey, Kylo. I heard we're doing some myth-busting today." "That's right." He can't tell if her playful tone is for the audience's benefit, or if she's calling him out—if she knows that the premise of today's stream was just a flimsy excuse to propose a collab. If she knows—or suspects—that he's one of her many, many subscribers, that he's scheduled his own streams so he never has to miss one of hers. "Well, folks," Rey turns to address the camera, with a little wiggle on his lap that has him clenching the armrests, "I'd ask if he's up for the challenge, but I can tell you right now"—a slow roll of her hips against his, confirming that this was either his worst or best idea ever—"he feels very ready to me."

steam. Rey is, frankly, not sure about this whole “sauna” concept. It’s a little hard to breathe through all the steam, the wooden bench beneath her feels like it’s a few degrees away from catching fire, and her swimsuit is damp and clinging. But when a tall, broad-shouldered man enters the sweltering room, admitting a literal breath of fresh air, his dark hair dripping onto a chest that glistens in the low light … well, Rey’s sauna experience just got a whole lot better.

fur. The first thing he sees is stars, speckled across an unfamiliar sky. The first thing he feels is fur, thick and warm compared to the frigid air, covering the body of the person carrying him. The first thing he hears is a woman’s voice, her tone hopeful and anxious at the same time. He can’t seem to recall his own name at the moment, but he knows hers. It’s the first thing he says, his voice a hoarse rasp: “Rey.”

leader. A good leader does the right thing, Senator Leia Organa had gravely explained to her seven-year-old son, even if they never get credit for it. He’s never had his mother’s unerring sense for the right thing. But occasionally, when the new Supreme Leader gives an order—an otherwise-idle squadron deployed to deliver relief supplies, a unilateral refusal to ally with a Hutt slave cartel, a better rehab program for injured troops—a tiny, traitorous voice wonders if any part of her could be proud of any part of him.

canonverse fake dating, anyone? #reylo #reylofics #dyadprompts
Their first date is entirely fake—a calculated, seven-course PR stunt staged for the Holonet. Rey is campaigning for Jakkuvian representation in the Senate and a connection with an old political family will open countless doors. Ben is recruiting for a sorely understaffed Academy and needs to demonstrate that the New Jedi Principles don’t forbid romantic attachments. Beneath the romantic façade for the media, it’s supposedly all about mutual convenience. Yet he’s half in love with her by the salad course, charmed by her wide eyes as she shoves each new appetizer in her mouth and more than a little aroused by the way she moans when she tries stuffed candlewick flowers for the first time. Worse still—though it does amplify the Holonet buzz a thousandfold—the date technically ends in disaster when they’re attacked by Hutt cartel assassins during dessert. Only half in love? No, he’s a goner the instant Rey hikes up her shimmersilk dress, seizes the bottle of starlight brandy out of the hands of their stunned waiter, and smashes it over the head of a would-be assassin. Then she wields the jagged remnants of the bottle with deadly precision to dispatch two more goons, moving in perfect concert with him as his lightsaber carves through the rest. He’s fought alongside with Jedi, ex-Rebels, smugglers, even his mom on one or two dire occasions, and it’s never—never—felt like this before, like the Force is one with them and they are one with each other. Afterwards, Rey insists on taking the rest of their dessert to go, and she’s delighted when the restaurant offers them extra quinberry cake, on the house. Ben hands her his share, equally delighted by her fierce blush when he murmurs that he has a different sort of dessert in mind.

art. “Uncle Ben!” Beebee sprints out the front doors of the elementary school and crashes into Ben’s legs with the force of a medium-sized asteroid. Ben braces himself just in time to avoid going down like a six-foot-three felled redwood. “Lookit what I made in art class!” Beebee thrusts a piece of blue construction paper at him. Squinting at the colorful scribbles, Ben makes out a tall stick figure wearing what’s either a neck ruff or an oversized bow tie, and a second stick figure in a poofy white dress, their hair represented by three lopsided circles in Crayola brown. Next to them is a smaller figure drawn in the same Crayola brown, holding a flower in one stick-hand and a ring as big as their head in the other. All three stick people are sporting huge half-circle smiles. “We watched a movie in Spanish class where two people got married!” Beebee informs him. “They had a girl with flowers and a boy holding the rings, but I could do both for you and Aunt Rey.” Ben’s stomach does something funny that has nothing to do with the turkey sandwich he’d scarfed down before running to pick Beebee up from school. “Bee, Aunt Rey and I aren’t planning a wedding quite yet,” he says gently, taking his nibling’s hand to lead them through the parking lot. Beebee’s forehead furrows. “Why not?” Glancing down at the picture of him and Rey getting married with Beebee as their ultimate flower-kid-ringbearer, Ben thinks to himself, Heck, why not?

gear. Ben Solo is not into cars the way his father is. Spending hours contorting himself into uncomfortable positions, getting covered with grease and dirt and oil, all for the sake of some ancient contraption with eternally shitty gas mileage? Not his idea of a good time. But. But. Stretching out his legs as best he can in Rey Niima’s vintage Chevy something-or-other, Ben realizes that maybe his childhood experiences with automobile shows and endless car talk still left a lingering impression. Because the sight of Rey Niima’s confident little hand on the clutch, smoothly shifting into fourth gear as she accelerates onto the highway, is really, really doing it for him.

fight. He discovers that Rey eats like she fights—with complete focus, no holds barred, all instinct and yet shockingly effective despite her lack of refinement. When she’s fighting him, he can pretend he can’t take his eyes off her because doing so would be lethal. In truth, it’s like watching a crashing waterfall or blazing fire—a force of nature as mesmerizing as it is dangerous. Now, Kylo can’t help unabashedly staring as she licks sticky jogan fruit juice from her fingers, seemingly oblivious to his transfixed gaze. Shifting uncomfortably in his seat, he can’t help but wonder if all that fierce focus and intense fervor would extend to other arenas besides food and fighting. If he keeps feeding her jogan fruit and plicto steaks, maybe—just maybe—he’ll get to find out.

guess. When the lab goes into lockdown after Mitaka drops a vial of unknown viral matter in the hallway, Ben isn't sure whether he wants to skewer the other man with a stainless steel stirring rod or thank him. Forty-eight hours for the entire laboratory to be decontaminated. Forty-eight hours in a single lab room with Rey Niima and only a pile of protein bars, fruit snacks, and a single crinkly emergency blanket between them. And one (1) game of Guess Who, left abandoned in the lab coat closet for unknown reasons. Or maybe just because it’s a shitty game, Ben decides, scowling at his array of little illustrated people. “Hmmm.” Rey chews on her lower lip as she thinks. Ben wants to gently free her lip with his thumb. Kiss it better. It’s a thought he’s been having since hour three, and it’s only hour seventeen now. Rey finally shows mercy to her poor lip, now a deep pink hue. “Okay, is this person is handsome, with a big nose?” “Big noses aren’t handsome,” Ben says, instead of calling her out on squishing two qualifiers into a single question. Rey’s eyes flick up to where his glasses rest on the bridge of his nose. “They can be.”

screen. Drunk Powerpoint Night is usually Rey’s favorite day of the month. It’s a chance to get tipsy with her friends and rant about Galaxy Wars or martial arts movies or ABBA lyrics to a captive audience. It’s also a chance to subtly ogle Ben Solo he passionately argues about the most pedantic topics she can think of, chosen simply to provoke him to the point where his plush lips purse in irritation and his shirt buttons strain across his broad chest. So she’s relaxed, cheerful, and one-and-a-half margaritas in when Rose cues up her presentation. The rest of Rey’s second margarita ends up on Poe’s couch as she splutters at the title on the TV screen: “Why Rey and Ben Should Date.”

canvas. “Ooh, is that your final project?” Rey eyes the wrapped canvas that Ben is carrying. During their four years at Chandrila U, Ben’s art has never ceased to amaze her: bold, graceful brushstrokes capturing emotion and movement in hues from monochrome to vivid depending on his (often mercurial) mood. He refuses to tell her anything about his capstone project, and she’s burning with curiosity. “When can I see it?” A delicate blush paints Ben’s cheeks and the tips of his ears with a rosy hue. “Soon. I promise.”

Adam driver in a cubicle with papers hung on the walls Rey had an office up in editorial, while Ben—despite being a senior reporter who’d been with the Chandrila Chronicle for upwards of a decade now—was confined to a too-small cubicle whenever he wasn’t in the field. It wasn’t usually an issue that anyone walking by could see his screen, except when he wanted to play Tetris on his lunch breaks. And, apparently, when his editor decided to send him a message that made panic well up inside him. Rey Niima [1:54 pm]: so about all your semis Ben stared at the five-word, uncapitalized and unpunctuated sentence. When had Rey noticed—how long ago had she noticed—? His frequent physical reaction to her presence wasn’t intentional, of course. He’d never had this problem before. But one glimpse of her ass in an atrociously tangerine-colored but beautifully tight pencil skirt, and his cock is eagerly perking up with zero regard for workplace professionalism. Or that time her blouse was just a tiny bit see-through and he couldn’t help but notice that her bra was pale blue, clinging temptingly to her perfect little breasts. Or when she gave him a teasing wink while handing back a draft bleeding with ruthless red-penned corrections.

screen. Kylo can’t tell if the inn’s finest room is growing warmer from the buckets of steaming water the maid hauled up, or if he’s merely hot under the collar because this blasted, accursed, detestable job requires him to remain in the room while Lady Aethelreyd bathes. There’s a rustle of cloth from behind the screen. A series of small splashs. A long moan as Aethelreyd—presumably—relaxes into the hot water. Kylo remains alert, leaning against the wardrobe while he keeps an eye on the room’s small window and single door. If his stance is particularly wide-legged and he has to adjust himself in his breeches—well, nobody has to know. Least of all Aethelreyd. There’s another splash from behind the screen. “Kylo? Could you fetch me the soap on the washstand? And a fresh chemise from my trunk?” Merely accursed? No, this job is thrice-damned. It would try the patience of a saint—and Kylo is no saint.

Rey shoves her own fingers, sticky with his spend, into the prisoner’s mouth. “Suck,” she orders. “Clean up the mess you made.” The captured knight’s big brown eyes hold hers as plush lips seal around her fingers; when she pulls her digits out of the wet heat of his mouth, he leans forward to lick an errant drop from her wrist. “Good boy,” she murmurs. “If you don’t have anything to say tomorrow, maybe we’ll put that mouth to better use, hmm?”

Ben feels a smile tugging at his lips as he reads the text from his lab partner. “Dude, you practically have little anime hearts in your eyes.” Hux bumps his shoulder. “Is this girl really that hot?” Ben pictures the bright glow of Rey’s smile. The summer-sunshine warmth of her arms when she’d hugged him in excitement the first time their little robot had successful navigated the maze. The burning heat in her gaze he thought—maybe—he hadn’t imagined when he’d pulled off his sweatshirt and his shirt rode up to expose his abs. Her dazzling brilliance as an engineer. “She’s beyond hot.” He struggles to find a word that can encompass even a fraction of what he sees when he looks at Rey. “She’s … incandescent. Like a star.”
