ALA is deeply disappointed in the result of today's Senate vote to reject using #ERate funding for wi-fi hotspot programs. The E-Rate program is broadly popular and admired, helping millions of Americans get online through the library and at school. More from ALA President Cindy Hohl ⤵️
"This disappointing vote doesn't need to become law if House members consider how many constituents are benefitting - and will benefit in the future from this program. The enthusiasm for this vote was low. E-Rate, supported financially by the Universal Service Fund, is wildly popular. Individuals and families need internet access and digital skills training that libraries are uniquely suited to provide.
