Multiple losses of ecdysone receptor genes in nematodes: an alternative evolutionary scenario of molting regulation
Molting is a hallmark feature of ecdysozoans, including arthropods, tardigrades, and nematodes. Ecdysone hormones play a crucial role in regulating the molting process of different ecdysozoan taxa. In...

@shumpei-yamakawa.bsky.social Barf & @hejnol.bsky.social show that loss of cdysone receptor genes is not exceptional in Caenorhabditis, but has occurred at least 3 times in Rhabditina and Tylenchina nematodes.

The hormone binds with ecdysone receptors which in turn activate genes that had been switched off, initiating the metamorphosis process.

We have a “box” covering some of the Hogness publication record in this paper 🔽.

But those Crete meeting summaries from 1978-1988 & beyond are worth reading too.

I think the first was written by Walter Gehring; the later ones by Ashburner.

Hee!

You could go down the hall & talk with @peiferlabunc.bsky.social — as a fellow Hogness grandchild he knows a lot of these stories too.

To answer the OP, yes, “copia” was named for high-copy number & abundant RNAs, but much was never published.
