of course what people mean is "these people aren't living up to what I think Christianity is about," but hey maybe that's my bias as someone who studies ecumenicism
I won’t argue that all religious language should be “translated” into secular speech a la Habermas, but I will argue that it’s harmful to say “Christian nationalists aren’t Christians because seeking state power is un-Christian.”

Fundies think LDS is a Satanic Cult, that the Pope is the Antichrist + Ecumenicism, (interdenominational cooperation) is also, straight out of the Pit of Hell. Charlie Kirk's murder probably set the guy off. I'm with Jon Stewart on this one. Who the fuck cares? Common sense gun control would be nice

Ecumenicism did characterize the old Christian right too - creating a framework for Catholics, Mormons and conservativ Protestants to work together to take away people’s freedoms - but it existed alongside older theoligical concerns.

Catholic ecumenicism: committees that meet for generations to try to refine the word choice about Filioque in Greek, Latin, and Aramaic to narrow the East-West difference by 2% per decade. Look for tiny opportunities and loopholes with Anglicans like “if a married ordained male priest is widowed.”
