The U.S. government has halted some efforts to collect an estimated $62 billion in past-due pandemic loans made to small businesses, concluding that aggressive attempts to recover the money — a portion of which may have been lost to fraud — could cost more than simply writing off the debt.
U.S. halts collection on some past-due covid loans, sparking federal probes
The Small Business Administration adopted the policy last April, prompting the agency’s watchdogs to warn last month that it “risks” violating federal law.

So very epic and cool that my federal student loan forbearance which has said it was ending in September for months and months has now been moved to April. No communication or email about this whatsoever. I only knew to look from a Threads post from someone else 😐 so erm heads up!
March 7, 2025 at 2:27 AM

April 2, 2025 at 9:58 PM
Oh EdFinancial, you want me to pay you now? A department that’s in its “final mission”? But I’m saving so much “waste” by ignoring these emails!
March 5, 2025 at 5:31 PM
Ok realistically how much damage can EdFinancial do to me if theoretically I haven’t paid my student loans since the inauguration

(context: he's the main person in the stock photo on the federal student aid website, whenever you go to make a payment he's just There)

Someone with better credit score knowledge than me -- my student loans are still in forebearance 'cuz I was part of the SAVE program and that's still stuck in legal hell as far as I understand
But the loan interest started back up in August
But the autopayment in EdFinancial say--

Mohela delayed processing my PSLF waiver paperwork for two years until they lost the contract and it shifted to EdFinancial, who've sat it in for another year - and now Trump's basically saying in EO's that it'll never get honoured. Years of work towards promised forgiveness - for what?

Paid 120k over 24 years and never late or missed payment - principal went down 10k during the entire 22 years - it is loan sharking by Mohela/Nelnet/EdFinancial
February 10, 2025 at 3:46 AM
EdFinancial has been marginally better than other loan servicers, in the way that a pile of dog shit is marginally better than a pile of elephant shit.
But NelNet, Mohela, Navinet, CRI, Aidvantage do not own the federal student loans that they are servicing

It is true that private corporations shouldn't be servicing loans and that this regime is a giveaway to corporate interests

Dept. of Ed could directly service, as they now do with PSLF loans

The 1% student loan interest reduction for enrolling in autopay by Sept 30th is a sham.

Me: 2 months for EdFinancial to process payment plan change, still haven't processed my autopay request.

Husband: 3 months and Mohela has not processed the payment plan change request, can't enroll in autopay.
September 24, 2026 at 4:13 PM
If they close the Department of Education you can rest assured I'm taking that as my EdFinancial student loans are dissolved as well.
March 6, 2025 at 3:14 AM
They already have. MOHELA was supposed to process 5 years of PSLF credits based on w-2's for me when a former employer refused to respond to verification requests during the waiver period, and never did so. I can't get EdFinancial to even tell me if the paperwork transferred, let alone credit it.

And Edfinancial, Nelnet, Central Research, Inc. (also known as CRI), and Maximus Education.
