Scan your local news today. How many stories are about something climate change is making worse...without saying so?

I counted 8 of those in my feed today, vs just 1 that named climate change directly.

Why does this matter? Research shows that making this connection changes how people see it.

That helps explain why big media, always the handmaiden of power, works so hard to frame climate concern as some fey, boutique, out-of-touch elite concern. They don't want you to know that other people are concerned too. If you knew that, you might organize & push for change! And so we get this:

Absolutely absurd that in the year 2026 there is no solar panel emoji OR wind turbine emoji

2024 was the hottest year on record 📈

TV news coverage of climate change decreased by 25% 📉

There's a massive heat wave coming.🥵

There’ll be huge coverage, yet the msm will rarely even mention climate change. In the instances they do, they'll rarely connect it to oil & gas, the cause.

Even as their viewers & readers think about climate change, msm avoid the topic. 🤦

Earth is finishing up its warmest year in the past 174 years, and very likely the past 125,000. Scientists are trying to understand whether 2023’s off-the-charts heat is a sign that global warming is accelerating.
Earth Was Due for Another Year of Record Warmth. But This Warm?
Scientists are already busy trying to understand whether 2023’s off-the-charts heat is a sign that global warming is accelerating.

New from me in the @nydailynews.com: www.nydailynews.com/2026/07/13/w...

The climate hushers are wrong. We should all talk about climate change and the industries causing it. And more importantly, people in power must talk about climate, or they are aiding the billionaires destroying our only home.
Why Democrats must talk about climate
It’s hot. Millions are sweltering amidst record breaking heat waves only possible because of climate change. Thousands died in Europe’s heatwave. But, here, Democrats from leftists to moderates have e...

Stopping indoor smoking was very controversial. Like ending #fossilfuel burning is now controversial.

Be like one of those annoying people who wouldn't be silenced and won indoor smoking bans. #endclimatesilence
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

"fewer people believe it now than when the same question was asked in 2019 and 2022"

🤔 I wonder if this has anything to do with this travesty?

That's already happening in the conversation about solar geoengineering, and it needs to stop immediately.

Millions of oat milk drinkers worldwide are about to learn that a global super-majority of people want stronger climate action. Oatly, the largest oat drink company in the world, is printing summaries of what it calls “the ultimate climate solution” on every carton it produces.

We act on what we pay attention to. If #climate gets 36 times less coverage than sport and entertainment, no wonder it stays low on the political agenda.

The silencing of public climate resources reminds me of this tenet of The Party in 1984:

"We shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there shall be no words in which to express it."

I understand why it's good to frame climate events in terms of the issues that are most concerning to voters but it's important to mention climate change too.
