My Mom's pancreatic cancer was brushed off as 'stress'.

My severe protein losing enteropathy was blamed on 'weight gain'

My post operative hysterectomy abscess was me being 'dramatic' and 'hysterical'.

Very nearly lost my life to that one.

Listen to women.
I’m so sick of these stories.

I’m exhausted, enraged & frustrated.

Misogyny in medicine kills. The patriarchy kills. The health gap kills.

We all have these stories. Some of us are lucky enough to survive, but many aren’t.

Tell your stories. Keep screaming until this never happens again:
Georgia O'Connor, U.K. boxer, dies at 25 after saying doctors 'gaslit' her on cancer concerns for months
O'Connor announced her cancer diagnosis in January, saying, "Not one doctor took me seriously."

Thankfully, a friend convinced me to file a complaint and go see a different doctor.

That doctor listened. They realized right away that it was swelling and not weight gain.

They ordered tests.

The result? Dangerously low albumin from a protein losing enteropathy.

To program a T cell to be a regulatory T cell requires the action of a transcription factor (a protein that turns genes on or off) called FoxP3. In 2001, Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell identified that IPEX syndrome was caused by mutations in FoxP3:

Friends, we're ok
I spent the evening thoroughly disinfecting the balcony and doing a deep clean of the apartment
The vets told my son that the intestinal problems in all three kittens seem to be related to parasite-related enteropathy just like their mama cat
They're now being examined and treated

Oh I’m glad you have eggs! I ended up with a severe protein losing enteropathy because my albumin was so low. Not fun. At least they can be prepared lots of different ways? I made sauce out of hemp seeds lol. It wasn’t too bad!

Diagnosis is settled on a non specific chronic inflammatory enteropathy, which is partially responsive to dietary changes (good news !) - but not completely. We’ll have to try and fiddle with a few other levers before seeing whether it might be auto immune, chances are high it’s not tho !
We FINALLY know what we’re dealing with. I’ve been chin deep in managing his discomfort and now we have to hunt the complements he needs down (they’re hard to find), thank you so much to all current clients for your patience and understanding !
Vet in four hours, he's not doing good at all. Trying to get this one to refer us to another vet who specialises in internal medicine. All of this will cost me money I do not have.

It's also a useful model for examining 'enteropathy': diseases of the gut that result from various causes, including environmental toxins & pathogens.

No problem. It was a protein losing enteropathy. I was starving and my albumin was so low I had fluid weeping out of my legs.

It was awful and I was suffering, but it was 100% treatable.

It was first offered to me in an ER setting because I was begging to be admitted. I was less than 90lbs with severe protein losing enteropathy. My legs were so swollen I couldn’t stand.

They said “if you’re unhappy with the care there’s always MAiD”. I never forgot that.

Hey all,so the GI blood test came back and it’s pancreatitis and small intestine enteropathy. We need to go ahead with the biopsy this week to understand the full nature of what’s going on but the vet say with his new fancy prescription vegetarian diet, new ongoing meds and care he should be ok!
Hey all, so the ultrasound results are back for Falkor and they aren't great.

First, let's talk about IPEX. It is short for "Immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, X-linked syndrome", which is a bit of a mouth-full. Essentially, it is a severe autoimmune disease, impacting boys (inherited only from the mother), which is fatal in early childhood unless treated.
