¿Por qué el mapa del mundo deforma África y la ONU quiere cambiarlo?
La ONU respalda Equal Earth frente a Mercator, cuya proyección agranda el norte y cambia la percepción del tamaño real de África y otros continentes.

Western bias? The error is in north-south direction. In my opinion #EqualEarth is ugly, as it distorts the shapes. Much better alternatives could have been found.
Actually the Mercator projection doesn't even make the central Europe much bigger. The worst distortion is in Scandinavia and Greenland.

It's weird how, when the #UN was discussing their resolution on the #EqualEarth projection, they didn't even *consider* the Asymmetric Monstrosity, which is also equal-area.

Over on Mastodon (you can find me here: mapstodon.space/@pinakographos), someone was kind, and perhaps disturbed, enough to describe the Asymmetric Monstrosity as their favorite projection. You can freely download a copy here: somethingaboutmaps.wordpress.com/2025/04/10/a...

For centuries, our understanding of nations across the globe has been laid out by a single map projection of the world. The United Nations just voted to change that.
