The NSA's irresponsible handling of EternalBlue ended up giving a gigantic force-multiplier to otherwise incompetent and inconsequential cyber-criminals.

NOBUS is a terrible idea. How terrible? Well, in 2017, the NSA lost track of a Microsoft Windows vulnerability that they'd discovered and hoarded, code-named "EternalBlue."

After EternalBlue found its way into the wild, some halfway competent hackers spliced it into some boring, everyday ransomware, giving that ransomware a new lease on life.

Within a few months, the stupidest people on the internet were shutting down some of the most important systems in the world, demanding cash to return them:

Stuxnet never caused issues in the way npetya did its not really comparable. if you wanted a us example it’d be eternalblue. Stuxnet spread but like it didn’t matter bc it only fucked up a v specific type of centrifuge
You know what's missing from the AI fears discussion?
Stuxnet and NotPetya

If you're familiar with those cyberweapons, then software that autonomously spreads, messes up computer systems, and ends up acting in ways beyond its creators' intentions or control isn't a brand new shock.

Thank you especially for bringing up and making comparisons to the EternalBlue incident. Even though it's recent history I completely forgot about it.

EternalBlue is the textbook case of trickle-down exploitation - state-grade vuln leaks, commodity criminals bolt it onto ransomware, and defenders pay the bill for years. Patching lag is the real vulnerability.

Esta es la estructura que sigue Eterno Azul (más los capítulos de trasfondo, claro).

#EternoAzul #EternalBlue
My preferred structure is:
1) Very basic rules primer (~2 pages)
2) Character creation
3) Full rules (for players)
4) The rest (for GMs)

Might be forgetting a few things there...

EternalBlue was fixed two months before those worms. You are also not disclosing that MS didn't know about it because the NSA was just sitting on it.

Vista was in ESU, XP was not at the time.
