Well the "intersection of transphobia and misogyny" is kind of a pop-etymology of the term that doesn't even use the actual definition in "Whipping Girl".

It doesn't make sense either, because it's not an intersection of two things. It's not like transphobia can be neatly separated from misogyny.
This isn’t even specific to “TME” but has become one of the finer complexities of transmisogyny theory—lots of people define transmisogyny as “the intersection of transphobia and misogyny,” but then we have this problem: essentially ALL trans people deal with both transphobia and misogyny

Except trees, maybe.

Sindarin dual etymology: rían: "queen, lady"
From Primitive Quendian *ri-: "garland, wreath"
but also Indo-European *h₃rḗǵnih₂: "queen, lady"

Not to be an insufferable etymology nerd, but the term transmisogyny was coined before the term misogynoir. Of course, the framework of intersectionality predates both words.

To add to that, the history of 'flabbergasted' is: we don't really know. First documented in the late 18th century, possibly of East Anglian origin. As an East Anglian myself, I endorse this etymology.

"static" and "plastic" were 2 fun etymology journeys for me years ago
Hey, do the kids these days know about visual static? Sometimes I talk about reverse-correlation methods that rely on random visual noise, and I wonder if students have any context for what I'm talking about.
We developed the capacity to visually encounter the cosmic background radiation from the creation of the universe and we mostly find it annoying.

TIL that "surly" comes from "sir + ly". As in, acting like an arrogant lord, a "sir".

Tangential but I spent a lot of time on the etymology, spelling, and definition of “ever-living” and “ever-loving” while working on this because I am that kind of nerd
"And if you’re a professional physicist or mathematician, why in the ever-living fuck would you collaborate with them?"

I have been asking this question of my fellow humanities scholars since 2020, and my hope is that all of us in educational institutions will work together to resist this industry.
NEW WRITING!

I had just a few things to get off my chest about physicists and others collaborating with technofascists …

“Why am I so convinced that companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are a danger to us? Because, to paraphrase a David Cross joke, that’s what they fucking said.” 🧪⚛️🔭

You ain’t gotta be super multilingual for etymology that simple. 😄

No fair! I actually wasn't sure myself lol. Like, yeah, the framework (and the black feminist frameworks it came from) pre-exist and like the intellectual lineage matters, but yeah, etymology matters too.
