the two big caveats are (1) capitalism contains competing interests which is a factor in how (2) capital is a social power which can be weaponized towards ends other than necessarily its own expansion (and yes this is a system contradiction!)

New JMIR MedInform: Real-World Applicability of Multiple International Terminology Systems in Oncology: Mapping Study of Clinical Terms for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Real-World Applicability of Multiple International Terminology Systems in Oncology: Mapping Study of Clinical Terms for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Background: With the rapid expansion of #health care data, multiple international standardized terminology systems have been developed and refined to ensure semantic interoperability, which is a crucial factor in facilitating collaborative use. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the real-world use and applicability of standardized terminology systems by mapping clinical terms from routine cancer care and to propose guidelines that optimize mapping. Methods: Clinical terms generated during cancer care at the National Cancer Center Korea were extracted and mapped to multiple target terminology systems: the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases; ; Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes; RxNorm; Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classification; and Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT). A multidisciplinary working group of #health care information managers, data experts, and oncologists verified the mapping outcomes, calculated the cross-verification discordance rate, and compared the coverage across systems. Results: A total of 3472 source terms were identified across 7 domains: chief complaint, diagnosis, laboratory test, imaging test, surgery/procedure, medication, and radiation therapy. With postcoordination and predefined mapping guidelines, SNOMED CT achieved high overall mapping rates (98.3%‐100%) across domains. Applying postcoordination as needed substantially improved exact semantic match rates, which exceeded 90% in most domains. However, more than 40% of source terms were broadly mapped in the imaging test and radiation therapy domains because procedural details such as imaging technique and radiation field configuration could not be represented in SNOMED CT. The cross-verification discordance rate between mappers, defined as the proportion of source terms with disagreement, remained low (0.3%‐1.3%). RxNorm and Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes showed complementary strengths within their specialized domains, adding detail or specificity where SNOMED CT was less complete. Conclusions: Standardized terminology systems are feasible and effective in encoding clinical terms for cancer care. SNOMED CT was the most comprehensive, and predefined mapping guidelines provide a structured framework for mapping and consensus resolution. Domain-specific systems should be used alongside SNOMED CT, and all systems should be updated regularly to reflect evolving clinical practice.

I'm wondering if a significant contributing factor to #Expansion kink is just the idea that you can let yourself get as big as you want in an accepting environment.

Polyglutamine-expanded TBP rewires neuronal and muscle proteomes beyond transcription in a Drosophila model of SCA17
Spinocerebellar ataxia type 17 (SCA17) is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder caused by polyglutamine expansion in the TATA-binding protein (TBP). TBP is a core transcription factor, but pathogenic polyglutamine expansion likely rewires cellular programs beyond transcription. Here, we utilized Drosophila strains that express wild-type (WT) or pathogenic (SCA17) TBP in neurons or skeletal muscle, which we analyzed vs. controls via TMT mass spectrometry, profiling of eight post-translational modifications, and RNA-seq. Shared TBP-WT and TBP-SCA17 responses predominated, impacting ribosomes and mitochondria while repressing innate immunity. Disease-specific effects were narrower and tissue-dependent: SCA17 activated xenobiotic, retinoid, and glutathione-redox pathways in the CNS, but attenuated anabolism in muscle compared to TBP-WT. Many proteomic changes occurred independently of mRNA changes, implicating post-transcriptional mechanisms. Knockdown of select SCA17-regulated proteins reduced cytotoxicity, validating omics-identified modifiers of SCA17 pathology. These findings distinguish shared TBP dosage effects from disease-linked, tissue-specific polyglutamine responses and identify evolutionarily conserved targets for SCA17.

oes: Optimal Effect-Size-Based Y-Axis Ranges
Calculates effect-size-informed y-axis recommendations for visualizations of independent, repeated-measures, and mixed designs. Summarizes selected error bars, estimates conditional standardized contrasts, and generalizes range-expansion rules using constants from single-factor, two-level studies of Cohen's d. Recommendations beyond that studied setting have not been empirically validated. Provides numerical results and 'ggplot2' visualizations, including summary plots and preservation of supplied plot layouts. Confidence-interval adjustment options follow the distinctions in Cousineau (2017) <doi:10.5709/acp-0214-z>, including difference adjustment and combined repeated-measures adjustment. Within-subject base intervals use the normalization of Cousineau (2005) <doi:10.20982/tqmp.01.1.p042> with the bias correction of Morey (2008) <doi:10.20982/tqmp.04.2.p061>. Correlation-only intervals and intervals with both adjustments are separate options. These references support confidence-interval construction, not the range-expansion calibration.
