Fantastic work, Malte & colleagues! Offers an explanation for what the "exposome" actually means in inflammatory bowel disease. Congratulations – well done.
Thrilled to see these two papers now published in Cell, and truly grateful to Mathilde & Mathieu @mmmicrobiomelab.bsky.social for the opportunity to work on the fascinating resource they built within the GMbC @globalmicrobiome.bsky.social
Huge efforts from the @globalmicrobiome.bsky.social out today!

Contamination doesn't necessarily signify harm. But what does look suspicious is a lack of public comments from manufacturers and regulators. A regulation blind spot. Then tightening of regulations and lack of science disproving harm

Transient ssDNA and the #Exposome seems like another potential avenue for genome harm. Various safety mechanisms in play but lacks some of the ones dsDNA has.

Est-ce qu’on respire vraiment mieux à la montagne qu’en ville ? ️

Oui mais pas si simple : l’air intérieur est souvent 2 à 5 fois plus pollué que dehors, et on y passe 80 % de notre temps.

193 parts of everyday life, screened against dementia in half a million UK adults. 76 were linked to it, from low income and smoking to never eating eggs. The strongest single predictor was how many medicines people took, which likely marks illness already present.
Exposome study ties 76 everyday exposures to dementia risk in half a million UK adults
Harvard researchers screened 193 exposures in 499,992 UK adults over 15 years. The top quarter of a combined score had about three times the dementia rate, but many links, like never eating eggs, may reflect illness already underway.
