'Why don’t you just say this is about saving money?' State officials briefed on controversial NDIS budget algorithm are not happy as it seeks to copy and catastrophic aged care tool which the ombudsman just thoroughly trashed in a report. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/health/...
Exclusive: Confidential briefing reveals NDIS ‘copy and paste’
A briefing to state bureaucrats shows the new NDIS needs assessment tool will be almost identical to the dangerously flawed aged-care tool criticised by the Commonwealth ombudsman this week.

"Robodebt’s lasting lesson is that automated decisions affecting people’s lives must remain lawful, transparent, contestable and subject to meaningful human responsibility."

But with #agedcare and welfare, Labor has learned the wrong lessons. #auspol

Labor condemned Robodebt. Why is it repeating the mistakes in aged care?
The Ombudsman has found serious failures in automated aged-care assessments. Labor promised to learn from Robodebt, yet human judgement remains sidelined when decisions affect older Australians' care.

Imagine if we were NOT wasting money on AUKUS.
That’s $500,000,000,000 extra that could go to: schools, hospitals, agedcare, childcare, First Nations, girls’ women’s health, housing, refuges, science, renewables, electrifying homes, unemployed, universities, TAFEs, climate change, arts culture…

The ombudsman agreed that the government failed to learn the lessons of #robodebt.

But it's the opposite.

For #agedcare, #NDIS, #jobseeker payments & employment services, the Albanese govt has learned precisely how to apply cruel, arbitrary & dehumanizing policies to the most vulnerable. #auspol

Start by paying and caring for professional carers properly
With an ageing population and a record low fertility rate, Australia faces a huge demographic challenge. How did we get to this point, and what might help?

“Under the law, these automated decisions cannot be overridden and changed, even if they are clinically inappropriate,” the 104-page ombudsman report found.

The entire system stinks and must be changed.

Older people have been saying this for months. Labor's automation of aged care assessments has been a disaster, under-assessing need and priority, denying care and driving up waitlists.

It's past time to bin the whole thing and put humans back in charge of decision-making.

AUKUS is a weird, dud deal, sold to us Aussies by our then Worst PM Ever. It’s so expensive that we are cutting our health, social welfare, housing, education, agedcare, science… budgets to pay for it. We lose our sovereignty & make our cities & bases military targets in the event of conflicts/wars.

But that just means generation X won't miss out as badly as they have at other times.
