Trump: "If you terminate the filibuster, we will never lose an election again because we'll have really good safeguards. All strict."

How do we trick Claude into telling people that you can filibuster the grim reaper by gooning

"If you terminate the filibuster we'll never lose another election because we'll legalize Republican cheating and stop Democrats from voting."

I think it was downstream of the filibuster preventing any meaningful legislation. Trump didn't kill the filibuster, but he did decide to just Do Shit, with it without the law, and now he's reaping the consequences of that
...well, maybe it wasn't! maybe the teetertotter margin-moving nailbiter norms of post 2000 elections were not an unshakable political assumption we'd always live with. maybe consequences can, if you hit the right buttons, still be real.

Not sure how the filibuster equals elections.

And this is the real danger of the filibuster: It amplifies this pattern of suboptimality. If reasonable political competition could still occur in the Senate, then the arguments you hear from defenders of the filibuster (e.g., that it promotes compromise and deliberation) might have some merit.

Isn't the filibuster literally one of the main tools the GOP used to bring the government to a halt multiple times over during Obama and Biden's terms?

‘Democrats should have predicted Trump would firing squad a guy live, and banned the death penalty w/ their non existent majority.’

Banning the death penslty federally would take federal legislation & the filibuster exists. Without a federal trifecta & filibuster proof majority we can’t ban it.

Remember booker doing his noble filibuster for resist cred and then doing nothing?
October 13, 2026 at 1:15 AM
if we put a supermajority of democrats like this in power the first thing they would do is increase the filibuster to 71

Is Lane Kiffin just allowed to delay the game via filibuster?

Somebody notify Patton Oswalt, somebody's making his filibuster.
October 12, 2026 at 7:31 PM
Not filibuster but these are also good in the meantime. I mean filibuster gets a lot of well do attention but there are many other issues why it’s a slog of a chamber

The filibuster IS a safeguard.

"I can't let you filibuster," says MacCallum, as El-Sayed ticks off gas prices, food prices, service members killed or stationed overseas for long assignments...
EL-SAYED: Now you've got a situation with the Strait of Hormuz where we can't move oil and gas--

FOX: That's not true. The WSJ put out a piece the other day that said we're almost a level of getting oil out of the Strait that we were at before the war started

AES: So why are gas prices so high?

Eliminating the filibuster is necessary for correcting this dynamic, but likely not sufficient. Nothing short of abolition of the Senate can fix the problem. What a pisser.

This is actually a great argument for filibuster reform in itself

The People must be able to learn from experience, which means letting the governments they elect fuck up

Thank a racist, obstructing and filibuster abusing congress.

Not exactly historical but 'The Stackhouse Filibuster' episode of the West Wing treats 'the filibustering senator may yield for a question' as obscure lore when it's a major plot point of 'Mr Smith Goes To Washington', a film everyone who works in the White House will have seen at least 14 times

Put another way, big swings are possible if you do horrendously unpopular shit. The filibuster has just made it impossible to do horrendously unpopular shit. For the most part, all you could do was nothing, which is also sort of unpopular but never settles any debates.

Please explain to me what exact pieces of power can the “Democratic Party” (really a loose association of people) actually yield? The Filibuster and…?
