The image is created from a macro photograph of the weathered detail of the paintwork on an old car. The background is blue and white with a lot of intricate detail while the bats are blue and black with the same patterning. These fast bats live in very large colonies in caves and I visit a local one in Thailand every week!

Three old fashioned girls in long dresses on wooden poles in a field of sunflowers with alien faces and clock faces. White windy clouds fill blue sky as the full moon rises. Bats are flying over the field catching insects. Big watercolor painting. It was a split second on that drive that inspired this painting. It was Highway driving, we passed the hilly farmers field where they had three wooden crosses out all year. A tractor trailer passed with three old- fashioned girls in their advertisement; field across the roadway had giant headed sunflowers that looked like alien heads. There was a clock out front of some sort of business off the roadway. The day was windy, cloudy, and we had just been discussing bats and how many insects they ate daily. People ask what inspires art, it can be anything… and not as deep as some descriptive narratives get. I paint what I see and feel- that is so often literally; this was just a split second observation and bit of conversation that had to be painted. No meaning behind it other than what I saw in that quick moment and the subject matter we were currently talking about.
