Kennedy says adding folic acid to tortillas is “waging war” against poor residents. Folic acid has long been added to cereal and bread and the CDC website currently says it’s safe for those with the mutation mentioned in the thread Kennedy is replying to.

BTW, if you have an MTHFR variant or similar, it is true that you don't process folic acid as well.

✨SINCE YOU NEED FOLIC ACID TO LIVE, THAT MEANS YOU NEED MORE FOLIC ACID THAN OTHER PEOPLE.✨

Also, you need folic acid *prior* to conceiving. Once you know you're pregnant, it may be too late to increase folic acid enough in time to prevent neural tube defects. That's a big reason why foods are fortified - so women of childbearing age are getting folic acid before they will conceive

Here’s a reference to this exact thing on the CDC site that they must have forgotten to take down for their racist, misogynist, stupid boss: www.cdc.gov/folic-acid/h...

About time 👍

Birth defects prevented by fortifying flour with folic acid
New legislation being introduced today will require millers and flour producers to fortify non-wholemeal wheat flour with folic acid from the end of 2026.

California is the first state to require food makers to add folic acid, a crucial vitamin, to corn masa flour used to make tortillas and other foods.
Corn tortillas in California now must contain folic acid. More states are looking at it

I’m seeing a ton of disinformation from the right wing about California’s new law requiring folic acid fortification for corn masa flour, so here are some facts (US only).

1. By law, wheat flour has been fortified with folic acid since 1998 to prevent neural tube defects like spina bifida.

folic acid is critical nutrient for pregnant people so their babies don’t get spina bifida among other things!

But Kennedy and his pals selling them folic acid supplements that may or may not contain folic acid is good public health ... sure, Bobby.

This is the stupidest press conference I have ever seen. Robert Kennedy, Jr. is corrupt and criminally stupid.

Folate deficiency relation to neurological disorders wasn't recently discovered. We have know that for years and that is why we add folic acid to grain crops.

Just in case anyone needs to hear it:
- Acetaminophen does not deplete glutathione unless you are taking toxic doses of it
- MTHFR variants don't prevent you from being able to use folic acid
- We don't know how folic acid works to prevent neural tube defects (NTDs); we simply know it does. (1/7)

Noting here that we've long required breakfast cereal, bread products, and flours be enriched with folic acid, plus. This has primarily benefitted white consumers.
We've also found that folic acid, beyond preventing neural tube defects, ALSO lowers risk of severe cardiovascular events in elders.
California now requires corn masa flour to contain folic acid to reduce birth defects among Latinos. Public health officials have lauded these efforts, but some conservatives say it’s another form of government overreach.

By the way, if you've ever taken folic acid, or even know that Folic acid is important, it's because Jack Wills' sister Lucy Wills was a scientific titan.

Folic acid is obviously recommended to help prevent birth defects and the amount pregnant women need is hard to absorb from processed food without fortification.
December 27, 2025 at 6:31 PM
Who wants to tell them folic acid is a good thing, especially if you want babies with fully developed neural tubes?

Folic acid is Vitamin B9. MAHA loves vitamins.

Leucavorin is filinic acid which is a form of folate but it is not the same thing as folic acid. That distinction will be lost on the public when the grifters start pushing folic acid. Going forward, mother's if autistic children will be blamed for not taking it despite no evidence that it works.

Folic acid supplementation along with adding iodine are two transformational public health interventions in food. Folic acid prevents severe birth defects.

The gene he is talking about just makes you less efficient in converting folic acid to the active metabolite. The additive is completely safe.

There are MAHA people against folic acid fortification because it's "unnatural". California just passed a law requiring folic acid fortification of corn masa, which makes perfect sense from a public health perspective, and I'm sure there's MAHA opposition to it. publichealth.uci.edu/2026/04/28/p...

Through this I’ve learned the RFKers are coming for folic acid if they ever win the war on fluoride
Just saw an RFK guy on Reddit pleading “please fix our bread, RFK” and got so fucking mad. Just make it yourself you stupid motherfuckers

In 1992 the US public health service recommended folic acid (FA) for all women of childbearing age. FA decreases the risk of infant brain malformations. A 2015 follow up study found that from 1995-2011, brain malformations had been prevented in ~1,326 infants per year. This is public health at work.
