Me, trying to flirt with a trans woman who likes video games: OOooohh, so uhhhh, what's your favourite framerate?
October 12, 2026 at 1:27 AM
(It's 60fps and pretty frantic action in the game itself, BlueSky has just capped the framerate)

i did it because I don't want to tie the UI framerate to the 3D scene framerate in my hair editor. it's one of the things I dislike about Blender's UI.

Played a 6-hour session of Find Matt's Cats without any loss of framerate.
Pretty sure the memory leak issue is fixed now. Will update the game in a day. Sorry it took so long.

for my recent Diddy Kong Racing replay I ended up using Ares as my emulator of choice and wow it's really damn accurate huh. right down to the framerate dips

they do this to save on rendering performance costs

that's why women take longer in the bathroom, there's a lower framerate from rendering the whole room twice

Kinda bugs me how often I hear people say “The developers decided to tie X mechanic to the FRAMERATE??? Duhhh were they stupid??” because basically everything in every game is ”tied to the frame rate” by default

awesome thing about playing all games on console is I just assume a shit framerate is what the devs intended

lowkey the n64 oot/mm framerate genuinely hurts my eyes a little bit but i do wanna finish each vanilla version
i need to get back to my replay of n64 oot actually

my favourite part of modern pokemon is the consistent framerate

Oops, GW2 is PACKED, framerate said NOPE, lol. That's okay, there will be more time for shenanigans :3
I'm hooooome... gonna be recording something tonight with @wintergeckos.bsky.social for a future silly little GW2 video 💖

isn't this the fight that nukes your framerate

I will document in more detail tomorrow but it does not pass through video at its native framerate or dynamic range.

> me running HSR at a cool 60fps while phones have unlocked framerate
October 13, 2026 at 4:20 AM
Nice, does the S2 uncap the framerate, or is it still locked to 30?
October 16, 2026 at 2:21 PM
I love when sub groups really care about good typesetting but mayyybe the line should be drawn at "don't cause framerate drops on the ED" lol
October 12, 2026 at 1:44 AM
Yep, knowing that trivia is important.

The original in-development code on NeXT, which also was used for the higher end Amiga release, was higher framerate than the DOS release, because id Software wanted to conform to VGA requirement, not SVGA.

(This basically means, all else being equal, a game targeting 4K natively on PS5 Pro does 720p on Nintendo Switch 2, and with upscaling PS5 Pro can do 4K at a higher framerate, or Switch 2 720p at a higher framerate, or Switch 2 1080p at the same framerate, etc., there's lots of nuance.)
October 14, 2026 at 4:33 PM
the more I work on games, the more I'm starting to appreciate a fixed framerate

Pen & paper is the ultimate prototyping engine.

It has zero boot time, infinite framerate, and zero compiler errors. If your mechanic isn't fun on index cards, code won't save it.
