Reading Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball when they were first published in Germany. I was 13 at the time and just absolutely blown away. I'd read francobelgian comics, but none of those ever made me want to draw myself. Manga did.
With all this awful news going on i wanna ask this question once again to fellow artists and general creatives. What got YOU into art? what sparked that motivation to start writing? what made you wanna pick up a camera and start taking pics? Like share with us your reasons.

Cartoonish/animated is different from what I do, tho. I don’t see this francobelgian classic inspired artstyle in US comics much (which doesn’t phase me much, mind. I am a games industry artist by trade, so comics is not my main business anyways)

Luckily I grew up on mostly francobelgian, and when I got a glimpse of superheroes in the 90s, I could limit myself to enjoying the art and ignoring the silly plots and characters.

oh im aware of all the lines of influence — a really interesting study could be made of the ways that so many traditional UK, Francobelgian, Italian and Spanish formats originated in the attempt to reproduce US Sunday strips at magazine sizes

every lucky luke readaptation gets handed over to some french comedian who seems to think the material is beneath them,instead of introducing what's still charming about it at its core to new audiences, they subvert it to little applause from francobelgian audiences, and utter befuddlement elsewhere
