#freakanomics
freakanomics started the 'rogue' x thing and it's incredibly funny because these guys were all, like, tenured professors entirely in the mainstream.
How would you not embarrassed to have the subtitle of your book be "A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets"?

One thing I learned back in the days of Freakanomics is to discount anyone who writes extended passages claiming that Nobody Else Would Think To Do what the hero author has done.

a lot of 1990s internet stuff was obsessed with Ebonics and black language in general. I was reminded of this by @michaelhobbes.bsky.social's Freakanomics episode where the book's section on black names is just a repeat of racist myths.
The weirdest racist email joke I remember was one where someone translated the entirety of Ovid’s Metamorphosis into Ebonics

(This is also how I feel about Bullshit Jobs, Freakanomics and most other pop-politics/economcs/philosophy type texts you mind find in an airport bookstore)

Hedge funds are buying up vet clinics and forcing others out of business. #Freakanomics did an episode about it. It’s tragic. I think vets have very high suicide rates too

Yeah the grotesquely incorrect stuff (alcohol consumption) aside, her freakanomics-for-moms presents a genuinely more compelling vision of motherhood than the typical one on offer (sacrifice everything to give your child any possible advantage). That’s why she’s popular!

Steven Levy has been a huge disappointment since Freakanomics. He is enshittification personified.

She’s not just an economist. And that’s part of why she’s able to do this .

She’s famous for Freakanomics. And also one who was famous for claiming we needed to open up schools during COVID

mostly because she settled white moms fears

She’s “rational” when rational just means contemptuous
Emily Oster, an *checks notes* economist, on public health crisis, social media, risk, and evolutionary psychology.

Can I have a national column on economics?

You do realize that New York City is ostensibly the modern equivalent of Venice when it was run by a Doge, right?

Of course not. That would require you to read a fucning book that wasnt recommended by an Amazon sidebar like Freakanomics.
It's a capitalist country you Muppet.

Fuck me.

It's literally written into the Federal Central Banking System. 1913 Federal Reserve Act ensures the US stays Capitalist.

Not sure how you expect a NY Mayor to bring down the US Capitalist system.

Needs done.

But he's never doing it. Be realistic.

The question of if a country could fuck itself harder than the UK did with Brexit has today been answered.
