being over 40 means most game pitches now sound like:
- work at FAKE JOB
- toil for NOTHING
- unlock FUTILITY
- waste the limited time you have before DEATH

Credit where it's due: this is an even better and shorter short story about tragedy and futility and loss than Hemingway's baby shoes one
Speaker Hakeem Jeffries.

Toss-up between “wore duct tape over my mouth in class for two days to protest the futility of language” and “got sent to the nurse because I couldn’t stop laughing at history teacher”
please delight me with your most on-brand story from your childhood

mine is that I quit Cubs after two weeks because it clashed with Coronation Street

Last seen boldly attempting the summit of Mount Futility

I’m calling this race right now for Colom, despite the futility of this fascist delay. Game over!

Yelling “get (housemate) out” from the audience of the Big Brother finale feels like an exercise in futility #bbuk

Discussing trans theory with people you genuinely respect and can learn from (particularly over coffee or a pint) is one thing. Online timewasters rehashing every last splitter argument of the last hundred years, with no awareness of the history and futility of those arguments, is another.

Gerade die futility werte ich als Zeichen dass er das tatsächlich selber macht. Wahrscheinlich wenn er higher as the empire state ist.

I feel my blood pressure rise a little every time remembrance day gets further reframed as like “serving in war is so noble everyone clap for war” instead of being somber about the futility and horror and waste of it all. it’s 11/11 because that’s the day the fighting STOPPED!

Never Back Down vs. Feats of Enormous Stupidity

Somehow for all their gamification of politics we never get this formulation on futility

It’s 60 votes, then it’s 67, then it’s 78, then it’s 88… theres always a magic number to excuse the Democrats’ futility in getting anything done. Nobody is content with “can’t” anymore.

4 November 1918. Wilfred Owen (aged 25) was killed in WW1, a week before the conflict ended. He was a leading poet of the “Great War of 1914-18”. His war poetry on the horrors of the trenches included Dulce et Decorum est, Insensibility, Anthem for Doomed Youth and Futility.

I mean, the songs are upbeat, she sounds happy singing them compared to how she sounds singing something like Futatsu no Tsuki, Kamisama Baka and Sophie. Compare the lyrics. All of these songs are an interrogation of Hatsune's sense of futility. Imprisoned XII even interrogates this in ep10

Only guillotines restore all accountability…voting in an inherently corrupt system is an exercise in futility, as we can see again and again and again
Jefferies and Schumer are weak, out of touch appeasers who are going to demoralize and anger the Democratic base. They will deny the very agenda Democrats cast their ballots for.

In 2020, in Mississippi, I was masked in the long line to vote. The line was outright hostile as they assumed, by the mask, that I was voting left. I felt so alone in that line. Voting in MS seemed a futility, like shouting into the void. Coming this close, no matter what happens, is astounding.

This is a great choice. Literally invented to demonstrate the soul-crushing futility of capitalism.

It is also a lesson in the futility of a vision of the Democratic Party that rests on large numbers of working class white people becoming Democrats over economic policy. I'm very pro-labor, but I don't expect political rewards for it. It's good policy, but those white folks vote Republican.
This is a whole essay on labor and identity in one image.
Angie Nixon calls out Sean O'Brien of the Teamsters for voting for and endorsing an anti-union Republican over a union organizer who walked the picket line with him and Teamsters

Then the whimsy serves as a reminder that you will never truly attain your goal of uninterrupted misery, the futility adding to your desired misery.

It's a win/win!

I'm beginning to think finding a "tame" Dakimakura for my body pillow is an exercise in futility...
