NEW: Land use advocacy org Futurewise is appealing Mercer Island's Comp Plan to the state's Growth Management Hearings Board. This marks the first time that an appeal has been filed over compliance with 2021's HB 1220, which requires cities plan for residents of all incomes & repair past harms.

Communities are only complete when they're connected. By shifting focus away from car dependency to biking, walking, & using public transit, we can create a safer, cleaner, and more accessible city.

#weekwithoutdriving is 10/1-10/8. Join us in participating and sharing your story!

Last night Clyde Hill (pop. 3,095), which is currently in negotiations with Futurewise and PSRC over its Comprehensive Plan, announced that it is reviewing the potential for "new zoning districts of higher densities" that would bring the city into compliance with state law.

Futurewise is challenging the validity of Mercer Island's Comprehensive Plan, alleging it's out of alignment with a number of state housing policies, including a requirement to maximize the area around its forthcoming light rail station.

Will this be the first comp plan to get the City of Seattle sued by Futurewise for failing to meet its GMA obligations? Time will tell…
The response from the Mayor's office is that the Comp Plan is officially in the council's hands! Except Moore won't be here for the final vote on the Comp Plan.

Futurewise, a statewide pro-housing/anti-sprawl organization, is one of the prime advocates of rent stabilization in Washington State and one of the very many reasons it stands a chance this legislative session.
"yimby" types are not progressive in any way. 90% of them would kill rent control and every tenant legal protection for a 1% drop in rent
