would be nice to eventually see the shader language reference shipped with the engine like the class reference for easy search

always take me some time to look up those gdshader built-ins 😅

Someone actually made a plugin for previewing parts of text shaders in Godot, like I've wanted for the longest time!

github.com/cashew-oldde...

Personally, I'd love to see it further implemented like "breakpoints" on lines, with on-hover previews. But still, so cool!

gdshader mask -> bake via RenderingServer -> feed to channel shaders -> bake -> feed them to the native Decal inputs

gdshader only lets you write shader code on top of engine's own surface shader. godot injects your gdshader code into that full (3k lines of glsl) actual surface shader where everything interesting happens (brdf, ssao, ssr,gi,decals, fog, etc). this PR lets you customize the full shader

Just realized that I forgot to add a link to the repo for the shader previewer: github.com/cashew-oldde...

Hope it helps!

I made a free standalone GDshader editor today, i made it for myself initially but then decided id expand it roughly, it can translate the gdshader to opengl.. kind of. More to come daiviey.itch.io/boukies-shad...

Still really wonky and needs a *lot* of work, but wanted to show off some of the progress I've made on my lighting shader effects.

Trying to do this like dither effect between shadows. Also a very basic day-night cycle sped up 50x in this. Still lots to work on.

#dkgame #gamedev 🎮: Making a world space Triplanar Mapping #shader in #godot. Might make a version in Object space as well. Perhaps it can be done with a simple Dropdown option? 🤔 (artefacts in the gif are just bad giffing, not the shader)

I tried out the gdshader, it looks very nice! I like that, as a sprite rotates, I don't see a grid pattern that shrinks/grows as the sprites approach a 45 degree angle :]

MuhuhahaHAHAHAHA!!!!

My one goal for today has been accomplished. That's code dynamically loaded from a GDShader file, processed into separate lines (minus empties), and put in my codeblocks.

#dkgame #gamedev 🎮: I want to make a juicy fluid sim shader for use in containers and I know of some that are out there, but this is just the start. A very simple fake fluid sim (which has some obvious caveats) but it was easy to pull off!

Every time I touch the .gdshader system I'm more convinced its a bad model. Debugging some nasty render stuff while I port to different platforms and so much free optimisation on the ground. Not helped by RenderDoc crashing on attachment atm. #godot #gamedev

Fun (aka irrelevant) facts about the current state of the #BloodOfTheLamb codebase:

The repo was created on 2024-09-02

We have 2995 commits so far.

99% of the code is written in GDScript, the other 1% is split between gdshader and shell scripts

1/5

I basically sat down last December 14th and taught myself GLSL/GDShader by brute force based on decades old half-remembered half-assed study of C and an affinity for shader nodes, so my experience may not translate all that well to others.

Lately I've been starting to learn shaders in Godot. Here is my try at a screen space global illumination shader. I would still like to optimize it a bit and maybe increase the functionality some more. But here is my attempt at SSGI in GDShader!

Alright, today's main task is to tackle more of the Blender->Godot pipeline. I'm looking to create a .blend that has my 8 little crystal meshes, then write some GDScript to animate them separately and a bit of GDShader to make em glow.

wrote my first shaders today :3. it was converted from visual shaders to gdshader but still Dx
