The Mercat Cross, marking the original centre of Glasgow. While it's built in a 17th Century style, it was only erected in 1929 to replace the original which was removed in 1659.

Glasgow Cross from the western end of the Gallowgate. The tower is all that remains of the 1620s Tolbooth, once the administrative heart of the city and the site of public executions until the early 19th Century.

The Tolbooth Steeple at Glasgow Cross. Dating from 1634, it's all that remains of the original Tolbooth building, most of which was demolished in 1921.

As they walk along St Vincent Place in Glasgow, few people will give these metal screens around a modern toilet block a second glance, but if you do, you'll see they bear the monogram of the Caledonian Railway Company.

Love this brass inlay in the threshold of the Tollbooth Bar at Glasgow Cross. This bar, along with the neighbouring tenements, was designed in a Scots Renaissance style by J.J. Burnet and was built in 1899.

Built in the 1890s, the design is credited to A.B. MacDonald, but this may have been an implimentation of a design created by John Carrick (MacDonald's predessessor in the City Improvement Trust) in the 1870s.
