As an editor and reviewer, I’m still seeing GPower being used to estimate sample size for a within- x within-subjects interaction, which it can’t do. That message should be made clearer within the app and documentation.

I often see papers using GPower for power analysis in repeated measures factorial ANOVA designs. I don’t know what it’s doing, but it’s definitely giving wrong answers: substantially underestimates required sample size. MorePower seems like a much better alternative github.com/LewisPeacock...

Someone somewhere might be obsessional enough to scrape Dimensions for all the articles that mention Gpower and report how many have underestimated their sample sizes! But whether it would lead the developers to make changes seems in doubt!

Oh super cool idea! Gpower is so highly used and basically un-designed. Gonna post this to scienceUX subreddit (unless you want to post!). We should eventually organize some design jams to look at this kinda stuff!

So, how much power are we looking at when it comes to G-Power’s G5M Bi-Turbo? In the most agile configuration, that would be a total of 1,000 metric horsepower. This equals 986 horsepower and 736 kilowatts, or about as much as the original Bugatti Veyron.

To be fair, good power calculations are also much more difficult than they are made out to be. T-tests, correlations, sure, just use GPower, but as soon as things get more complicated (e.g. LMMs), power calculations become small simulation studies in themselves

Right, there may be a way to fiddle things to get the correct answer in GPower, but it’s not obvious how.

Like, thinking about it, there's something to be said about how so many things operate these days that locks a lot of ppl out. I suspect my phone isn't compatible b/c it's niche-ish (Moto GPower) and "old" (5 yrs old), and perhaps most importantly, a budget phone.
Doctor: I think you might have sleep apnea. Get a home sleep study done b/c they're way cheaper.
