Even though the Americans and Germans most commonly employed this style of vehicle, the USSR also dabbled in halftracks and even tank destroyers and SPGs on this chassis. Orders to test the ZIS-41 on the ZIS-22M chassis were given #OTD in 1942. #tanks #History #WW2 #WWII

Even Tigers with relatively minor damage had to be left behind because unarmoured engineering halftracks could not be brought up to evacuate them and towing a Tiger with another Tiger inevitably resulted in a broken transmission. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

The Americans built the GMC T48 for the British, but they considered it unsuitable for the European theatre. The halftracks were passed off on to the Red Army where they were used under the name SU-57. The first vehicles arrived in the USSR #OTD in 1943. #history #WW2 #WWII

#OTD in 1941 Alkett was instructed to quickly build a tank destroyer to help the Africa Corps. The result combined surplus Sd.Kfz.6 halftracks and captured Soviet F-22 76 mm field guns. It was large, slow, and very poorly armoured. Only 9 vehicles were ever built. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

The Germans armed their unwanted Sd.Kfz.6 halftracks with captured Soviet 76 mm guns to make tank destroyers. #OTD in 1941 the first and only Sd.Kfz.6/3 company was formed in Wünsdorf. All vehicles from the company were lost in North Africa in 1942. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

While it's out I might as well get a quick family photo of my Battle of the bulge vehicles. Also my rather nifty little CoC jump off marker. So far this is the only collection I've made custom markers for.
I think I need one more sherman, 3 more halftracks and the riflemen to put in them.
