Best book I’ve read in decades… I don’t actually know when I’ve read something this exciting & moving & brilliantly comprehensive & utterly mind altering. As for the prose—it’s overwhelmingly beautiful & haunting. Thank you @wwnorton.bsky.social @wwnortonuk.bsky.social @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social 🙏

one of the most well-deserved pulitzers probably in its history tbh. if you haven't read aaron's haunting, moving account by now, stop what you're doing.
My colleague Aaron Parsley just won a Pulitzer for this story, written days after he survived the July 4 floods that killed his nephew. It's one of the most gutwrenching and memorable things you'll ever read. Please do.
“The River House Broke. We Rushed in the River.”
The July 4 Texas flooding ripped our Kerr County home from its pillars, pulling us into the water and into the night. Then morning came.

one of if not the most haunting articles i’ve ever read
The story doesn’t say whether this particular case was deliberate or not, but the people who questioning how a loving parent could ever do this accidentally need to read this 17 year old Washington Post article about how it does.

this remains one of the most beautiful and haunting pieces of writing i’ve ever read. if you have small kids in your life, read when you’re feeling emotionally durable, but do read it
Today marks the first anniversary of the Fourth of July flooding that devastated the Texas Hill Country.

Senior editor Aaron Parsley was with his family at their river house when the water began rising. In the immediate days following the flood, he wrote about their shared experience:

As I read this article I think more about all those girls incarcerated in Dilly TX and other shitholes. I can't summon up any feeling for this guy except KARMA is haunting him, and I'm fine with that.
