And like the previous occupant of the post, I seem to be mislaying some species. We don't need snails after the Flood, do we, I seem to have dropped Helicidae overboard?

UK Garden Snail (Cornu aspersum) is the most common mollusc in the UK and probably the greatest garden pest. As a keen gardener I can definitely confirm that fact!

Pseudochloritis insignis is an extinct pulmonate snail from Miocene Germany. It was originally described as "Helix insignis," but then was moved to Pseudochloritis. Later, Pseudochloritis was moved out of Helicidae (the escargot family), & into Elonidae as a close relative of Klikia

Klassiker Throwback in meine frühe Schulzeit:

Biolog*in: Moment! Apropos Schnirkelschnecke.. 🤓☝️

What does an epiphragm remind you of? The operculum.
Functionally, anyway.

The two structures have different origins. The operculum is attached to the animal and is secreted by specialised cells in the skin.

The epiphragm can be ditched when it’s no longer needed. (6/14)

doi.org/10.1080/1323...

Phylogenetic evidence suggests the non-validity of the Iberian land snail genus Tartessiberus and confirms its synonymy with Iberus (Helicidae)
The monospecific genus Tartessiberus was described in the year 2021 including a single species (T. cilbanus). However, its description relied solely on morphological and anatomical data. In the presen...

The visceral mass is the internal organs bundled up and coiled in the shell. You generally don’t see this unless you’ve accidentally stepped on a snail or have escargot for dinner. Some of the organs (mostly digestive gland) are visible in the shell spire here. (2/15)
