The British Library’s latest exhibition, which is now in its final days, is certainly a crowd-puller. On my visits and based on reports of others, it is often busy to the point of traffic-jams in some sections. This is no surprise: ‘Medieval Women’ may be substantially smaller than, say, the unforgettable ‘Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms’ (2018–19) but it is, nonetheless, a cornucopia which overflows and, yes, overwhelms.
