Well that was fun, they gave us a go on the wind and percussion instruments.
Turns out my experience with the clarinet helps with making a tune out from a hichiriki even though that one is closer to an oboe.

It depends on how you define Palmyra, but to me, Pokémon music has a Japanese sound and harmony.
The sounds of Japanese instruments such as the sho and hichiriki used in gagaku and the sitar-like sounds from the Middle East feel like Oriental music, which is what makes it reminiscent of Palmyra.
