“.. Surging benchmark rates are starting to bite corporate credit more significantly. Spreads on high-yield bonds have widened 28bp in the past three days, the most since October 2025. While spreads are still relatively low, they've been widening at an accelerating clip.”

From the Financial Times: "A $25bn Treasury auction of 30-year bonds on Thursday drew yields as high as 5.22 per cent, according to the US Treasury department. It marked the highest yield since the 5.52 per cent paid in August 2001, after which 30-year auctions were suspended for almost five years"

For contrast, this is yield curve for April 8th, 2025.

This is an "inverted yield curve". As you can see, it's a bit alarming because it implies that either people need high returns to hold short maturity bonds: a 1 month is paying a higher yield (4.36%) than a 1 year (3.83%). Counter intuitive!

The difference? Steven Schwartzman doesn’t have a bag chock full of high-yield bonds he needs to dump on the public.
