Is there a link between
previous generations'
exposure to pollutants
and health problems in subsequent generations?

Are pollutant mixtures
in the hippocampus, bones, liver, kidneys, and spleen
adequately documented
or omitted from history?

An intervention against inflammation: "intranasal hiPSC-NSC-EVs therapy in late middle age can effectively diminish proinflammatory microglial transcriptome and signalling cascades that drive neuroinflammaging in the hippocampus" isevjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
Intranasal Human NSC‐Derived EVs Therapy Can Restrain Inflammatory Microglial Transcriptome, and NLRP3 and cGAS‐STING Signalling, in Aged Hippocampus
Neuroinflammaging, a moderate, chronic, and sterile inflammation in the hippocampus, contributes to age-related cognitive decline. Neuroinflammaging comprises the activation of the nucleotide-binding...

Andrea Hiott @lovephilosophy.substack.com has mastered "holding paradox" in neuroscience, pointing to the dual-natured history of the hippocampus as a prime case study.

We discuss her new book all about it (and much more).

Childhood trauma is assoicated with ~15% lower cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1R) availability (PET) in the brain in adults. The biggest effect was in the amygdala and hippocampus, which are very much involved in stress regulation, but surprisingly not the frontal cortex.

Dopamine remained elevated in overtrained mice's hippocampi 48 hours after an exercise test, during their rest phase. The same response has not been confirmed in humans. doi.org/hcqzst
Overtraining may disrupt the brain's dopamine regulation, leaving levels elevated during rest
Excessive physical exercise affects more than just the muscles; it can also alter brain chemistry. A new study published in the journal Neuroscience reveals that exhaustive training without adequate rest alters the regulation of dopamine in the hippocampus, a brain region closely linked to memory and the regulation of emotions.

Dental health resulting in bleeding gums has been linked to Alzheimer's. It causes a bacteria to prenetrate the blood brain barrier and reach the hippocampus (memory). An inflammatory response leads to toxic enzymes that produce plaques found in the autopsies of 90% of Alzheimer's patients.

The science says otherwise. One study found that starting exercise in your late 60s, 70s, even 80s still offered significant protection against dementia. Your hippocampus, the memory center of your brain, shrinks 1 to 2% every year as you age.

Happy to announce that the HSG protocol for segmentation of the hippocampal tail is now published in Hippocampus! 🎉

Developed together with the hippocampal imaging community, it complements the existing HSG body protocol for consistent segmentation of body and tail.
Harmonized Protocol for Segmentation of the Hippocampal Tail on High‐Resolution In Vivo <fc>MRI</fc> From the Hippocampal Subfields Group (<fc>HSG</fc>)
The hippocampus is a heterogeneous structure with cytoarchitectonically distinct subfields that exhibit heterogeneous lifespan trajectories and are differentially susceptible to diseases. Advances in...

Unlike sight or hearing, which route through the thalamus, smell connects directly to the limbic system: the entorhinal cortex and hippocampus. When olfactory circuits degrade early in disease, these memory structures lose vital input and face accelerated disuse atrophy.
