Hadn’t seen a hirundine this year until today, so it was great to see swallow, sand martin & house martin all at the river in Nairn.

Finally my first House Martin of the year with a single bird joining the hirundine party at Castell ddu. Failing light made it harder than usual but still picked out 4 Little Ringed Plover. Bonus 5 Goosander on the river. (Photo taken last weekend at Llanrhystud) #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birds

sandmartin colony, right on the edge of pasture - holes mined into the red land on a sea-eroded soilface - similes of bats, fish, insects as they swarm, but nothing could be more hirundine than those movements in 3 dimensions, the cut of wing & aviator's visor, the zeeping calls, the purpose #birds

Good birding at Margrove today with the previously posted Egyptian geese, a dunlin & little ringed plover showing beautifully. Hirundine numbers up - swallows gathering & feeding young, plus a striking imm. herring gull with nice beak patterning. @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social

Seems like there are plenty of Common Scoters turning up on inland water bodies today! Maybe there will be one on your patch?

Good luck to all patch birders over the weekend, chance of an early Hirundine, Wheatear or Little Ringed Plover too! #PWC2026

House x Hirundine? 😳
1776: Swallows & martins, before they withdraw, not only forsake houses, but do not frequent the villages at all: so that their intercourse with houses is only for the sake of breeding.
