I'm seeing lots of large bees right now. I'm attempting cell phone shots with no zoom, so I've bumped into quite a few bees and the large ones are very forgiving. This is a male eastern carpenter bee on a horsemint flower. #bees 🐝🌿 #pollinators #bugsky #insects #ECK #nature #wildlife #nativeplants
A large mostly black bee with a fuzzy yellow back and also dusted with grains of pollen on it's wing. It is sitting on spotted beebalm (Monarda punctata) The bee is an Eastern Carpenter bee (Xylocopa virginica)

A bouquet of flowers picked in Jacksonville, FL on 9/4/26: primarily celosias of different varieties, cranberry hibiscus, gloriosa lily, sweet almond, giant ironweed are visible. I probably should have specified Monarda fistulosa. M. punctata to me is horsemint so I don't really call it bee balm. Although I also usually call M. fistulosa wild bergamot. Common names are so dumb. M. punctata is one of those very location dependant plants tho. It spreads like crazy when happy.

Saw many wildflowers on a morning walk along the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS) just north of Fort Tuthill County park. After trail re-construction a few years ago, they spread native wildflower seed on the sides.

#PlantMoreNatives Dotted horsemint(Monarda punctata) is native to eastern N.Am. It's in the mint family & the leaves contain thymol (same oil that is in thyme).
The pollinator is a feather-legged scoliid wasp (Dielis plumipes), a solitary, ground-nesting wasp.
