Virginia rails are small, chicken-like birds of marshes. They are smaller than Clapper and King rails and possess a gray face with reddish bill and cinnamon colored back. They are a secretive bird, using freshwater marshes and reeds to hide among, while searching for food. The American Pipit (center frame facing left) is a native to North America and is a small slim and slender bird with a small head and beak. Grayish brown above, variable streaks below. American Pipit center frame, facing left. They are one of the few songbirds who nest on the artic tundra and also in the artic meadows.
