According to the nice ladies at the university who did all my testing, I have normal hearing to a certain point, and then hyperacuity towards anything higher than that.
Which could go a long way towards explaining both the tinnitus and the brainsquish!

94. I have some auditory hyperacuity / sensitivities. Swishing snow pants or winter boots for instance. If I hear that it’s like my brain seizes. I am physically uncomfortable and unable to think or do anything until it stops. I plug my ears and let whoever get ahead of me.

For those of you who are curious… look up “hyperacuity” and enjoy the rabbit hole of literature that almost all leads back to Westheimer. A chapter of my book is devoted to this field that he almost single-handedly created, and it does not do justice to all the great papers.
