Brief mention of #LongCovid in the context of hyperosmia / smell sensitivity in the French movie A Private Life starring Jodie Foster. (of course in a seemingly functional person that is able to work, but still, always interesting to see it mentioned out there in the wild)

🤢

I have hyperosmia too so I'm 200% with your sister! I made the mistake once... never again.

My beloved sassy queen in the closet.

Pretending hyperosmia in order to sniff poppers whenever you want. What a power move.

You will be missed but never forgotten.

Yeah but I don’t like any type of air freshener or anything in the vehicle for extended time due to hyperosmia. I can smell people’s body wash/deodorant/soap when they walk in the office.

Researching a symptom, as we now must. Hyperosmia is a heightened sense of smell, usually temporary. Can cause migraines, can be apparently imaginary scents. For me, it's like kitchen scents got cranked up. Compost, trash can, even opening the fridge is woooah. Great fun, do not recommend. 👎

I have hyperosmia and durian is one of the scents I’m ultra sensitive to and it’s like someone stuffed a thousand rotting corpses up my nose

Ah, got it. Thanks. When you said increasing sensitivity to fragrance I thought you might be referring to something like hyperosmia. It's frustrating how many things have fragrance added!

If I was there and didn't have hyperosmia I would gladly clean it up.

I’ve always been sensitive to smells. Yankee candles are my kryptonite. Today, it’s like the intensity has been pumped up. Every person I pass has a noticeable smell. Thought it was a superpower but just learned that hyperosmia can be exacerbated by seasonal allergies.

Maybe my mom and I had Covid. Maybe it was just a weird cold. Maybe it was the flu but we had our shots so it wasn’t too bad. We both ended with the exact same symptoms, one day apart, including hyperosmia.

(I legit believe I have hyperosmia or a version of it, bc...whew, I be ready to fight.)
January 1, 2025 at 5:59 PM
that's because i have a sensitivity towards smell (hyperosmia?? I think??) that means that i can smell everything and anything, that also means that naturally stronger smells like alchool and trash makes me overly sick even If i'm far away.

also means that i recognize stuff more easily by smells!
When i say "i know the smell of you skin" i don't say that ironicaly

*he closed his eyes a little too tight, but only for a brief moment, sighing, can't have him accidentally killing her after he just put her on a seatbelt*

Thanks for remembering I have Hyperosmia by the way

Oh for Christ’s sake. If the person who keeps farting on this aircraft doesn’t stop I will curse them with hyperosmia and a lifetime of living in a vat of rotten eggs, ammonia and Limburger covered in feces.

This one we share. I can identify with a high degree of accuracy if a person is sick, if I have enough exposure to the specific sickness, with what, and I have narrowed my range of scent to about 13'. I also don't get the option to shut it off. Ever. Hyperosmia go brr!

Yes. So my hyperosmia manifests most strongly as I don't go nose blind, I can parse and pinpoint scents in a group, and I can smell things at extended ranges. These are symptoms classically called being a "nose". But there are lots of ways hyperosmia manifests, and that's not exhaustive for mine.
November 15, 2023 at 9:13 PM
So I recently learned that hyperosmia is the term both for a hypersensitive sense of smell, and a hypersensitive sense of taste. This is because both taste and smell make up the olfactory system. So I can taste people at extended ranges. This feels like it falls under "kink". 🧐

New house rule, the person with genetic and hormonal hyperosmia (who has detected multiple pilot light outages and gas leaks!) is not the person who sprays the flower garden down with soap-garlic-cinnamon-peppermint oil critter deterrent after it rains.

Ohno.

Migraine Hyperosmia is like being in the omegaverse. I can identify close family and friends blindfolded, tell you perfume notes with scary accuracy, and sadly projectile vomit in a GP waiting room if you're wearing a designer knock off 😵 this moring has been fun

Woman who can smell Parkinson's disease describes moment she realised her husband had it
Joy Milne told The UK Tonight With Sarah-Jane Mee about how her rare condition of hyperosmia, an incredibly sensitive sense of smell, helped her sniff out the disease in her late husband, Les.
