A series of photos I forgot I'd taken last summer. This was the biggest Ichneumon wasp I'd seen and I watched her skip between fence posts for a while before she paused and lay her eggs, possibly in an unsuspecting larva in the wood.

A short-tailed ichneumon wasp on what appears to be a screen of some sort. It is a reddish-brown color with clear wings The antennae are long and thin. It has its ovipositor extended above its body. The legs are long and brown.

A long-tailed giant ichneumon wasp on a tree. The tree is bare at the upper right, with a hole at the lower right of the bare part. Below that, there is bark that appears to have some light green moss on it. The wasp is facing up-left. It is long and slender. The abdomen is a rich reddish-brown. The first segment of the back leg is black with a yellow spot at each end. The rest of the leg is orange. The wings are clear with visible veining. The thorax is dark brown with several yellow lines and markings. The front legs are thicker and yellow. Its head is brown with a yellow stripe crossing it. The antennae are long and V-shaped.

A Giant Ichneumon Wasp (Megarhyssa Macrurus[?]) seen this past summer resting on a wall.

The ovipositor on this critter was massive, maybe 1.5 - 2x the length of the whole wasp. I unfortunately couldn't get the whole thing in the frame.

Any #insect experts out there? I think this is a #Barylypapropugnator #ichneumonwasp can anyone confirm? It’s a bit bedraggled as I was floating in me loo and I got it out with some toilet paper
