I'm full expecting ICWA, Indian Health Services, Bureau of Indian Affairs to be on the chopping block this 1st year....we've been successfully defending ICWA for decades now but just barely and with trump trying to usher in a new termination era its gonna be one hell of a fight.

The Indian Child Welfare Act (1978) helped my tribe keep our children in our tribal communities. We lost so many children to state child welfare, adoption agencies, religious groups, and the Boarding School Era. ICWA helps us to this day fight for our children.

This is a great model for better ICWA compliance. ICWA (the Indian Child Welfare Act) is supposed to protect Native families from prejudice and abusive social work practices, but states don’t always follow it.

As far as indigenous folk go, it was illegal for us to practice our culture until my mom's lifetime, we couldn't teach our languages until mine. You should learn why the ICWA was established and how long Indian Schools were operational.
based on responses to this, I'm guessing many/most of us living in America are only a few short links from Japanese internment, via relatives, friends, colleagues, teachers, and other social connections. We are not free of that national sin.
talked with my parents tonight, and learned that the doctor who delivered me when I was born was himself born in a Japanese internment camp in Arkansas. The past is not that far past.

I have spend my career advocating for children remaining in familial homes. ICWA is a very powerful law.

The "we're all immigrants" rhetoric is directly harmful because it erases the harms being done to Indigenous people. At the top of my concerns are stripping of religious rights & EPA regulations in favor of corporate welfare & attacks on ICWA, which will allow for more theft of Indigenous children.

I hope someday there's more research on post-Sixties Scoop/post-ICWA adoptions...indigenous children are still being separated from their families even though ICWA is the "gold standard" of child welfare. It didn't stop my removal from my family.
They're going to come for tribal sovereignty again. The Court upheld ICWA, but left a hole so huge you can drive a mack truck full of klansmen through it.
If prioritizing Native people in adopting Native kids discriminates against yt people—as it probs does after SFFA v. Harvard—ICWA is going down.

2. More citizens of Native Nations are being targeted by ICE. There are repeated attacks on ICWA by Gibson-Dunn (Exon's lawyers). Lust to invade majority Indigenous Greenland. Attacks on Indigenous people on every level. It's all a preface to attempted extermination. Why? Because we have answers.
