It's a Blue Chicxulub Impactor Wave.

This metaphor has sorta run out of road here...

Good thread.... and I wanna see!!!

Related: Really want a visualization of the final approach of the scenario impactor for 2027 Planetary Defense Conference ('2026 PDC27'), or even earth-relative coordinates (nadir lat-long + altitiude). Slowly figuring out JPL Horizons but anyone have?
A video was just shown of the Apophis fly by that they aren't releasing to the public because it is too immersive and terrifying with its cinema view for folks who don't live and breath this science. Instead they have this suite of videos: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/5651/

Tf you mean Impactor called Springer his “little green circuit booster”?! Why am I not seeing more of this toxic age gap yaoi?! #valveplug

the kinetic impactor could already be on its way and you’d never know

I am curious about possibilities for a last-ditch intercept by an ICBM (or SLBM). The impactor will hit Montreal (the conference site) and comes in from the south I can see. Would be convenient if US Minuteman fields are located correctly

Sorry, Starlink

this looks like the paper to read on the subject

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

the surprising thing to me is a nuclear deflection outperforms a kinetic impactor by almost two orders of magnitude in terms of impulse delivered.

Just imagine some d*de buttoning up an access panel on an indoors-only control panel with an impactor and twisting it with a breaker bar while it's clicking to try to get it tight enough.

For completeness:

JAXA has also demonstrated that it can do kinetic impactor asteroid deflection if it should need to.

Addressing the impact hazard is a global project.

I learned today about some recent observations of the asteroid 128 Nemesis.

For those unaware:

Nemesis is a harmless main-belt asteroid. It was named in the 1870s, before the asteroid impact hazard was understood.

Rumor tells of a list of reserved names for an impactor, but Nemesis is not on it.

DART from NASA, Hera from ESA, and the CNSA asteroid deflection demonstration have all involved kinetic impactor asteroid deflection: Run the spacecraft into the target, shoving it along.

Anubis proposes to demonstrate gradual deflection with an ion beam - i.e. solar electric rocket exhaust.

Denton: If the impactor (Theia) is large enough, the strength does affect the outcome. The model used includes paramaters for friction, plastic, and thermal yielding (ie, strength) #DPS2026

Belated thank you for stopping by my table, sorry I missed you, but glad it meant you were able to find some Springer & Impactor art this year! 😁

G1 Snare

The most prominent of the four small Predators due to his role in Last Stand of the Wreckers. It was a rather finite role as Impactor crushed his brain part way through his final soliloquy.

slam an impactor into a protoplanet. two bars race: one grows from the added mass pulling harder, the other from the impact heating the core. which wins decides whether the planet keeps its primordial atmosphere or loses it to space
