1) 🇩🇪 There's now more info about the PIONEER study which will test inebilizumab (a drug that targets B-cells), in a subgroup of ME/CFS patients.

It's a randomised trial at the Charité that aims to include 38 participants.

2/1 Es gibt Arzneimittel, die bei ME/CFS helfen könnten. Sie werden derzeit bei anderen Diagnosen verwendet. Eines trägt den sperrigen Namen Inebilizumab: ein sogenannter monoklonaler Antikörper. Mit ihm wird bisher eine seltene entzündliche Autoimmunkrankheit behandelt.

1/1 Das lässt sich mit anständigen Worten nicht mehr kommentieren, was diese Bundesregierung treibt. Das eigentlich hoffnungsvolle #MECFS Medikament Inebilizumab sollte eigentlich weiter erforscht werden. Die weitere Forschung wurde nun abgelehnt!

2) Inebilizumab targets the CD19 a marker on B-cells; the immune cells that produce antibodies.

Compared to Rituximab (which targets CD20), inebilizumab targets a broader range of B-cell subsets, including early B cells and plasmablasts.

Förderung für vier weitere Studien ist beantragt. Geprüft werden u.a. Ocrelizumab und Inebilizumab, die gezielt B-Zellen angreifen, die Autoantikörper produzieren. Auch geplant: Eine Studie mit Aripiprazol sowie eine Immunadsorptionsstudie bei Post-Vac-Patient:innen.

UPDATE: The German Ministry of Research (BMFTR) announced that it is funding a phase II study on Uplizna (Inebilizumab).

It targets the CD19 marker present on B-cells during most of the maturation process (see graph below).

🔬 Das BMFTR meldet die Förderung einer Phase-2-Studie mit dem monoklonalen Antikörper Uplizna/Inebilizumab. Außerdem ist für das 1. Quartal 2026 eine Bewilligung der Förderung der 2. Phase der Nationalen Klinischen Studiengruppe (NKSG) vorgesehen.

Eine Förderung zur Erforschung von Inebilizumab zur Behandlung von #MECFS wurde abgelehnt. Das BMBF (noch unter Leitung von Stark-Watzinger) begründete dies mit zu geringer Relevanz.

Die Entscheidung muss revidiert werden.
