Yes, so terrible that people drive hours to see him, get his aphorisms tattooed on their bodies, integrate his nonsense ("love her but leave her wild") into their wedding vows etc.

If the internet has done anything, it’s reduce writers in *other* written media to the condition of poets. Forty years ago, you could still make a living writing short stories, for instance. That is no longer true. Highly regarded musicians with multiple albums work at Starbucks between tours
