Statement: Delaying the next major IPCC report risks leaving global decision-makers in the dark
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA — Following the abrupt conclusion of the 65th plenary meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Addis Ababa, countries failed to agree on the budget or timeline for publication of the Seventh Assessment Report cycle (AR7). As a result, the report may not be available in time for the second Global Stocktake (GST2) under the Paris Agreement, which begins at the United Nations’ COP31 climate conference this November and directs countries to assess their progress toward existing climate goals. To support that stock take process, the AR7 report would have provided countries with up-to-date insights derived from thousands of peer-reviewed papers to provide governments with objective data on climate change. Environmental Defense Fund’s Executive Vice President Angela Churie Kallhauge issued the following statement regarding the timeline for the IPCC’s next climate report: “Science is the bedrock of effective, equitable, and ambitious climate action. As countries prepare to kick off the second Global Stocktake at COP31, we need the science to better understand our collective progress and guide the next phase of national climate plans. Without it, we risk making decisions in the dark. “The vast majority of governments, particularly Least Developed Countries and Small...

WWF: Delaying IPCC Reports Could Leave Climate Decisions Behind The Science
The 192 governments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are meeting this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This may be their last chance to agree to publish all three Working Group reports by 2028. IPCC Chair Jim Skea with former IPCC Secretary Abdalah Mokssit. Photo Credit: IPCC / Flickr GLAND, Switzerland (13 October 2026) - The world risks missing a key deadline for the climate science needed to cut emissions and prepare for a hotter planet. The 192 governments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are meeting this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This may be their last chance to agree to publish all three Working Group reports by 2028. The timing matters. If the reports are ready in 2028, governments will have the best available science before they review global progress and decide what to do next on emissions cuts, adaptation, finance, and international cooperation. For decades, governments have used IPCC reports to guide global climate policy. The Sixth Assessment Report helped inform the first Global Stocktake. The Seventh must be ready to guide the second. Its findings need to be available before decisions are made, so they can support stronger, faster and fairer action...

I am happy I picked an apartment with insulation cuz all I have on is a fan in 97 degree heat outside and feeling great 😍

AND it's not individual actions like turning off our ACs that fight climate change: we need corporations to do that and other things now! #IPCC #IPCCReport

In case you missed it, my latest post in Forest Monitor: Were forests not taken seriously enough in the last IPCC 1.5° report? #IPCCReport #1o5C #climatechange #forestry

Were forests not taken seriously enough in the last IPCC 1.5° report? • Forest Monitor
The latest IPCC special report discusses the potential impacts of 1.5°C global warming but without focusing much on the need of protecting and sustainably managing the forests we currently have.

"A new, sobering report on climate change from the United Nations is drawing renewed calls for sweeping action in Maine." @DavidReidmiller and climate experts from around the state react to the #IPCCReport on @MainePublic:@CLF @UMaine @NRCMenvironment

'No Doubt This Is Driven By Human Activity': Maine Groups React To UN Climate Change Report
But there is a silver lining to an otherwise dire report. Just as humans have influenced climate changes, the report concludes that humans also have the potential to determine the future course of the climate. Maine is already taking positive steps: it's among five New England states that have laws that mandate reductions in emissions.

Action on #ClimateCrisis to make 2025 the peak year for emissions (reducing ever afterwards) as recommended by the #IPCCReport actually tells us just how close we are to oblivion.

But getting this done means ripping the (fossil fuels) rug out from under capitalism.

Won’t happen

I found it rather embarrassing for Australia that Mary Robinson correctly pointed out #ScottyTheGaslighter has clearly not read the #IPCCReport despite making public announcements about it. #abc730

Scott Morrison had the temerity to stand up & lecture the rest of the world on climate action.
Still clinging to Angus Taylor’s ‘strategy’ of addressing climate change with technology. Seemingly oblivious that #IPCCReport says TIME’S UP!! #ScottyTheBlameShifter #VoteAngusOut

From this point forward all climate deniers need to be listed for vilification. Talk ‘scepticism’ or ‘denial’ or even ‘doubt’ to me & I block you. #IPCCReport

What #IPCCReport brings up, however not underlining, is fact that bwt 1850-2019 the observed land & ocean sink took up 1430 GtCO2 (59% of the emissions). And the better we reduce the emissions, the better help we'll get. We really need to restore & preserve the earth's ecosystems

"Sobering reading" said the PM about the #IPPC #IPCCReport. And for once, I agree with him. Now he just needs to grow a spine and take on the backbench carping against net zero. https://www.endsreport.com/article/1724281/ipcc-climate-report-hopes-fading-curbing-global-warming-2%C2%B0c

The new #IPCCReport demonstrates (again) the urgent need to for radical change in our societies. All sectors will have to play their part, including farming and agri-food. 🧑‍🌾🐏🌿

Just gonna add my 0.02 that we should be investing in modern nuclear and seriously studying geoengineering besides the obvious buildup of renewables

Trying to defend the city without meeting emission targets may be impossible. Global effort, including NYC, is only real solution. Educating New Yorkers to curb emissions per #IPCCReport should logically come before talk of $20B+ plan for barrier. 3/n

Not just @Facebook. @Google could put this GIF on everyone's search page tomorrow; that would be the responsible thing to do. It shows the extraordinary present-day challenge of 2C (let alone the 1.5C target of the #IPCCReport).
June 22, 2025 at 1:15 AM
For NYC, what's interesting here is that a 1:100 ratio in education vs. adaptation would be phenomenal; it would provide $250M for education. A 1:1000 ratio ($25M) would be far more than currently exists. More to think about in the wake of #IPCCReport @SydneyAzari @JKSteinberger

Thank you, @bradlander. NYC needs more mechanisms to:
1 - prepare public for the meaning of #IPCCReport.
2 - build social initiatives as well as physical infrastructure.
3 - make NYC a cultural leader in carbon mitigation, to protect NY'rs, Americans, & people everywhere.

From today’s @washingtonpost. Proof that we need strong #ClimateSolutionsNow tackling buildings, schools, buses, landfills, etc. Stay strong and keep listening to the science and not the naysayers @PaulPinsky, @KumarBarve, Delegate Stein. #IPCCReport
