it is insufficient to only offer institutional referrals to title ix or counseling to students right now. they want to know WHY this happened, WHAT causes systems of humiliation & shame, and HOW to understand the history & continued problems of extraordinary complicity and violence of institutions.
in class i spoke of *analytical* work in feminist thought that we can use to comprehend the grotesque rape at Cornell & institutional complicity w/rape: on shame, abolitionist feminists against uni police, & the history & failure of title ix. This is why we need Women’s Gender & Sexuality Studies.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed in 1972 that bans sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal money.

Whatever the (many) problems with police and prosecutors generally, adding the university layer just compounds the perverse incentives. It's insane that a (Cornell) Title IX officer was present during the (Cornell) police interview.
