Got a case now where they refused to give a pretrial detainee his insulin until he fell into diabetic ketoacidosis and died.
Every few months some agitated weirdo gets upset at me over the Atlantic post I did about how the prison system ROUTINELY engages in unimaginable abuse and lets people kill themselves, because they read it as “THERE’S NO WAY EPSTEIN WAS MURDERED”

On clinical service. Have had more uninsured patients than usual.
One coming in with a heart attack and the other with diabetic ketoacidosis.
Neither had regular care and all of this was preventable had their hypertension and diabetes been caught in time.
We are in bad shape.
One coming in with a heart attack and the other with diabetic ketoacidosis.

So, right now, watching this kind of "philosophy" spitting out of RFK's mouth, I am livid. The past 30+ years of my life are thanks to medical science. I ended up in the emergency room, after months of faith healing, herbs, ketoacidosis & a near death experience in the spring of 1992.

It’s Diabetes Awareness month! I was just diagnosed this year as a type 1 diabetic after almost dying from complications related to diabetic ketoacidosis, so my goal is to make more people aware of the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes!
